I spent the first seventeen years of my life in West Virginia, raised as a Baptist. After graduating from Va Tech in Chemical Engineering, I earned a Masters in Biomedical Engineering from UVa. I came to the Episcopal Church in 1983, at Christ Church in Alexandria, Virginia, where Kathy and I were married in 1985. We have three daughters, a son, a daughter-in-law, a son-in-law and a granddaughter (who unfortunately is too far away - in Boston). Currently, I am an executive at Augusta University and Health System responsible for overseeing the information systems operation. I would bring years of experience managing large operating budgets and capital projects, developing complex business strategies and understanding of new technologies/social media approaches to gaining and maintaining membership.
We have moved a bit in our almost 31 years of marriage. Seven times in fact. Each of the seven Episcopal churches we attended in other places were great in their own way; St. Pauls felt like home from the beginning. We came to St. Pauls a little over three years ago. The members were and are very welcoming. I feel the energy and excitement of a church that is once again growing. We need to engage our new parishioners as never before to support and continue to grow our presence in the downtown and greater Augusta community. We need to secure our financial future to support our historical structures. We need to continue to share in the wonderful fellowship that is St. Pauls. With our energy, faith and God's help we can do great things. Thanks for your consideration of my candidacy for the Vestry.

Allen grew up in Augusta-Evans at The Episcopal Church of Our Savior where he was baptized and confirmed. He has been a member of Saint Paul's for three years. He and his wife, Gail, were married at Saint Paul's and have a daughter, Campbell, age 8. Allen is the Equipment Coordinator for Southway Crane & Rigging. At Saint Paul's, Campbell enjoys her duty as an acolyte, Gail volunteers in the children's Christian Formation and Allen serves as an usher.
Allen comes from a lineage serving Saint Paul's since it's founding year of 1750. All of whom were members of the vestry, including junior and senior wardens of the church.
Allen feels it is a blessing to be apart of the Saint Paul's family. He understands the importance of the church developing young people and supports its local charitable involvement. He would like to see the church continue to grow and promote Christ throughout its community.

With ancestral roots in the Augusta area going back over 200 years, it's odd that I almost never came "home" and then only spent a night in this wonderful place until May of 2014, when I visited a friend who had just returned to town. I rapidly fell in love with the friendly atmosphere and took a rather sudden chance at a new beginning after some unwelcome tumult in my personal life by coming here to stay as I did in the autumn of 2014.
I was born near New York City and baptized at New York's Episcopal crown jewel, Saint Thomas Church Fifth Avenue, where some years later I would be a part of the St. Thomas Choir and Choir School as my father had before me. As a chorister of ten years old, I was part of a very select group that performed 400 pieces of sacred music at 5, even 6 services a week in that wonderful place. Long after I moved to Virginia, where I spent nearly two decades prior to coming to Augusta, I still considered St. Thomas my church home because of its central importance in my own faith journey.
I have worn many professional hats before, during and after my university education in a number of fields, almost always as an entrepreneur. Most recently, I have focused on a few professional talents - that of an independent appraiser, auctioneer and also a dealer and broker in collector automobiles, antiques and collectible items. Today I continue to do these things - and also go down new avenues thanks to the wonderful opportunities that are open to creative entrepreneurs in the CSRA.
Having moved to the CSRA during October of 2014, I can safely say that our Saint Paul's Church was the first home that I made in Augusta - I almost immediately felt at home during that first service I attended on October 17th of that year and by the end of the service I had resolved to stay at St. Paul's. This was while my move was still ongoing and was more importantly during a period of transition unlike any I had experienced before. In the midst of it all, I had just begun to rehabilitate my commercial building on Broad Street and shortly thereafter buy myself a home, but I found myself at the doors of this parish every Sunday. I did not go to New York for Christmas in 2014 but was present here at 10PM on Christmas Eve. I did not even expect to be so comfortable and happy here at St. Paul's as I was and continue to be, but I was.
I think that says a lot for our parish - and it leaves much to be paid forward by its members for such a positive, warm and embracing inclusiveness.
In early 2015, I transferred my church membership (something I have never done in my entire life) to this parish and joined the Choir, whose director and I share the same principal musical mentor in the late Dr. Gerre Hancock, another almost mystical coincidence. During 2015, I served our parish not only as a member of the Choir but also in outreach and lay ministry positions, all of which I plan to continue doing for many years to come.
It is my intent not to pull back or remain static at my present level of involvement, but to become more of a contributor and more involved still in the life of our parish. With God's help, I believe that I can continue to make more of a positive contribution towards our parish home as I have already done.
