Exceptional Pinot Noirs - On Tasting Tomorrow

evin Bell and Tricia Byrnes have created quite a reputation with their Hurley Vineyard as one of the Mornington Peninsula's
finest - if not one of Australia's most impressive - makers of Pinot Noir. From three distinct tiny single plots on their gently-sloping, volcanic-soiled property in Balnarring, they craft minuscule quantities of exceptional Pinot Noir. And nothing else - unusually - just Pinot Noir.
Occasionally a fourth wine - the Estate Pinot Noir - is produced from young vine fruit and de-classified barrels of the three single-block wines when particular parcels of fruit don't quite meet the exacting standards Kevin and Tricia expect. And as always, it represents particularly impressive value for money.
Following-up on the sensational 2015 vintage was always going to be a difficult task, yet Hurley's Pinot Noirs may not only have matched the quality of last year's wines, but perhaps even surpassed them!

As usual, the most open and accessible of Hurley's three single-site Pinot Noirs, with beautiful savoury fruits, earthy notes and a little spice. Very attractive, open-knit style offering immediate pleasure, but do not underestimate the wine's ageing ability.

| 2016 HURLEY 'Lodestone' Pinot Noir |

Lodestone, which includes four distinct clones, is as always very pure yet powerful, medium-bodied and full of crunchy, racy red berry fruits, minerals, spice and ultra fine tannins. This is a gorgeous wine that will be even better with another year or two in the bottle...if you can keep your hands off something as delicious as this!

2016 HURLEY 'Garamond' Pinot Noir

Entirely MV6, extremely complex and deeply-flavoured and in need of time, the superb 2016 Garamond delivers everything expected and more. Loads of ripe, dark cherries, minerals and spice, incredibly fine tannins and fresh acidity give the wine a sense of lightness and even flow despite its power and density. Needs a few years to reveal its full potential, but this is stunning and worthy of a place in any cellar.

2016 HURLEY VINEYARD 'Estate' Pinot Noir. $41 per bottle offer price (normally $48).
This is one of the great value-for-money Pinot Noirs going around. Soft, open and  approachable, this is packed with juicy red fruits, soft and fine tannins, lovely minerality and some complex earthy notes. Very good depth of flavour, whilst it's less dense and complex than its three single block siblings, it's right in the stylistic groove. A very pretty wine and the perfect drinking wine whilst the other three wines mature. Click here for more information.
