Pocono Heritage Land Trust is honored to welcome two new members to the organization's Board of Directors.
Cathy Folio and Jackie Speicher each have backgrounds in biology, education, and are involved members of our community. Each of them bring valuable experience and skills to our organization and we are glad to welcome them on board!
Cathy, a
native of NJ, relocated to the Poconos in 2013 in the wake of Superstorm Sandy. She has an MS in mathematics, an MAS in Natural Resource Policy and Management, and an EdD in Higher Education Administration. She has been teaching for 40 years in the community college sector and enjoy helping underprepared students reach their college goals.
She raises organic blackberries and purple asparagus in Effort, and is stewarding her land for conservation of wildlife, bees and endangered plants. Cathy serves on the boards of the BWA and Trout Unlimited, and is a volunteer for The Nature Conservancy, the Tannersville Cranberry Bog Committee, West End Parks and Recreation Association, and Penn State's Master Well Owner Network. She believes that the preservation of the natural landscape should be of the highest order of priority in today's rampant development world.
Jackie
moved to the Poconos with her family in 2000. Since then, she has become involved in environmental education programming with the Monroe County Conservation District, and Lackawanna College Environmental Institute. She co-founded the Pocono Avian Research Center, a non profit education and bird research organization. Currently , she is an adjunct professor at Northampton Community College, teaching biology and chemistry.
