Global Update July 15, 2021

Each 1 way trip to the Amazon is about 11 hours of airport time and travel an hour drive to the international port, then 20 hours in the boat to the Nativos base in the town of Maues... Usually, as it was this time as well, with a full truck load of equipment being taken in. That's 32 hours of travel time then add loading and unloading and another 4 hours to the jungle base... Just to say, If Ashley left for Singapore and I left for the Nativos base we would both arrive at our destinations at the same time at opposite poles of the equater and I've never even left the country! Please join me for 2 weeks of miracles, work, visitation, disappointments and victories... Missions isn't just preaching!

A short four hour expedition after my arrival in Maues! Pastor Missionary Noel in the front and Pastor Missionary Neilton in the left rear have been working together for years. Neilton, for decades, has been reaching the interior river people. They have discipled so many Christians in the villages that they desired to create their own village. In river villages it is normal for a village to branch off families to keep the village from getting too large to be supported by the local area.

Here we are going out to visit "Nova Esperanca" New Hope. A family came here 40 years ago and today Madam Marluce is 75 and has 15 children, 3 of whom passed away. I asked Madam Marluce how many grandkids she had.... the response was pretty funny... "I think about 20 or so...well some of my kids have 10 children, some 8, some 6, some 4, some 2 , some 3, " I was laughing; pretty sure she's not well educated in math!

This is one of her grandkids, Victoria, sporting some handstiched clothes inside the family "house of prayer." In the raining season it takes them 8 hours to get to town, once a month, to buy goods and 10 hours to come back. When the river is low they have to walk 6 hours to catch the boat. And the kids would have to walk that distance to school as well... but they don't; the teachers give them homework 1x a month when they go to town

Talking to Madam Marluce she said "My dream is to have a House of Prayer and a pastor to care for my family before I die, and to have a well so we have clean water to drink, during the dry season we only have muddy water we get from digging holes in the ground."

For $1000 we can finish her "House of Prayer" with a concrete floor and half wall to keep out the mud and water from the rain. The well will cost considerably more and provide water for approximatley 20 families (160+ people) in the area around her home which is centraly located as the "New hope" Village

Say "hi" to Marluce! At 75 she testifies that God got her out of a wheel chair bound situation of 2 years so that she could better raise her family and praise the Lord. Her last desire was that she could have a pastor for her house of prayer at least one time a month to minister the word to her extended family and neighbors. It takes just $40 a month to make one trip here (27km) from Noel's village by boat. Please pray that we can raise up more pastors and missionaries to help shepherd God's children at the ends of the earth.

Some time back we sent an extra $600 to several of the missionaries just to help them as they needed it. Pastor Noel used his funds to help build a place for the village to proces the manioc root the harvest to make flour and tapioca!

Thanks to Alice, a generous friend we were able to have a BBQ/ice cream for the missions team. That's a HUGE treat for them as their normal funding certainly does not permit such extravagant spending. Everyone left stuffed, happy and blessed by the care given through the ministry team. That team would be you! In Portugues our ministry is called "Global Equip". Which translates to "Global TEAM" in Portuguese. Becase we can't do it without you!

Besides visiting the home of all but one missionary, visiting villages, and preaching... We; "Ronan, Jean, myself and several of the support team on the boat worked in extremly hot and humid condition in the hull to fix, update and clean everything around the water and sewer tanks. Putting in new valves for cleaner sewer maintenance procedures fixing leaks...

and changing out all the sewer and waterlines that were leaking raw sewer. It was in really bad shape as it was never properly installed.

On the pre-filter water system we made repaires on the UV unit and replaces all the filter elements in the bulk filter.

We added a .1 (point one) micron medical grade water filter to filter out any virus or bacteria that may be in the reserve tank before going to the main water supply tanks on the roof for the medical unit. We also installed a new disconect valve to facilitate better maintenance procedures

Other minor repairs included an electrician spending over half the day rewiring the pilot house lights. We think the previous guy was on drugs when he did this. Pretty sure I'm not joking. 3 of 3 lights didin't work and none had the correct wires running to them. Visually there was no lack of opportinuity to have the right wires in place as there were 6, yes six, unused wires in this light box and no neutral connected to the light switch! The first time I tried to take this picture my temple touched a 120 volt wire hanging from the ceiling light fixture and fried my brains and eyeball, that hurt for the next 3 hours .... that was an exciting moment... But I'd be fried now. Not brain any problems have seen yet...

After unpacking all of the brand new orthodontic equipment I was really, really upset to find the equipment litterally in pieces, not properly mounted, poorly painted, wired wrong, and with several issues in the construction, engeneering and finish work... Unfortunatly this is a not uncommon in Brazil.

This was the condition of the solder for the control pedal on the chairs. It was completely shorted and an extremely poor soldering job! After several of us spent an entire day making adjustments and repairs it worked perfectly. Considering we were working from limited toolboxes in a boat it all ended well.

On the counter you can see the teeth cleaning equipment with a low radioactive emission portable x-ray camera with its digital reader in the black case. Just needs a new laptop to load the software and go to work.

We also now have 2 portable chairs and dental equipment kits with built in compresors. Not knowing the ropes (Not a dentist) I was unaware that the white cased kits did not come with the air driven dental tools. There is a kit of, 2 high speed and 1 slow speed, tool heads needed for each set. Each set is about $400 and we are already over budget because I was also unaware of the special need for the low radiation camera and electronic reader to replace film. You can't do film under the circumstances of a boat based medical unit without lead lined walls or proper disposal for chemical contaminated water from developing film.

God of Miracles!

Story Time! 13 year ago Sister Sonya passed by this house visiting a friend and dreamed of one day purchasing this house for her family pictured here in the yard of the house. She shared her dream with her husband, Pastor Hernando who has been full time volunteer missionary on our team for several years. Last week we made the deposit to purchase it for the Nativos Amazon Ministry...

It's been our dream for several years to get the Nativos team out of paying rent and out of houses they could not improve on without fear of loosing the investment. Ashley and I had no idea that this house we were considering was something Sonha had dreamed of for years! This exact house. Only after we made the deposit and I went there to take a picture with the family did I hear the story! Today we joined on video call crying as they took possesion of the house with their children.... We are believing in faith for the balance of US$20,000 to be paid in the next 60 days.

We went to the second house with Luana and Jean after making the deposit to take this picture. As we arrived Luana told me that they had looked at this house 3 years and 6 months ago as the house of their choice in town and were trusting God that one day they would be able to move here... First time I heard this story too!

Last night they recieved the keys and this house is fully paid for by Global Equipe donors for US$20,000. Both houses are registered to Nativos Ministry in Maues as long term invesments so the Nativos missionaries will always have a safe home to invest in and pass to the next generation of missionaries.

Eternally Grateful

Paul and Ashley Perry
