St. Brendan Summer Update
August 21, 2024
| |
The mission of St. Brendan Catholic School, in partnership with parents and our parish community, embraces a Catholic Identity centered on the Eucharist to empower our students to act as Disciples of Christ, use their God-given gifts in service to the Church and community, and achieve academic excellence.
|
Dear St. Brendan families,
We have just two weeks left until our first day of school. Our teachers and staff are eagerly preparing to welcome students back to school. Please read through this bulletin for some important information that will help you and your children prepare for a smooth transition back to school. Please also note that our school office will be closed starting Monday at 12 PM through Thursday at 12 PM next week for our teachers and staff to attend in-service meetings and trainings.
Please join us for our Back to School Picnic on the field this Sunday, August 25th following the 10 a.m. Mass. Join us for Mass at 10 a.m. followed by fun games, hotdogs, burgers, and more! This is a wonderful opportunity for students to connect with their teachers as well as reconnect with classmates and meet new ones. Bring your favorite picnic side dish, salad, or dessert.
We are in great need of volunteers in order to make this event a success! PLEASE consider signing up for a volunteer spot. There are a wide variety of volunteer opportunities: https://stbrendan.volunteerhub.com/vv2/
Some of the volunteer opportunities include:

First Day of School Information
|
Wednesday, September 4th
8:30 AM
We will begin the school year with a full Mass in the church. Parents may park in the school and church parking lots (cars parked in the school lot must be moved by 10:00 a.m.) Parents, students, teachers, and staff gather in the church for a beautiful Back to School Mass to bless the school year. Parents must remain with their student(s) throughout the Mass (no dropping off students as there will not be any supervision). Please plan on staying at school until about 9:45 AM.
Each time we have a service at the church, it is a full-uniform day. Please make sure the students are wearing a green logo-ed top and they look their best.
9:30 - 9:45 AM
Students and parents will walk to classrooms and take "first day" pictures. Please only stay for a brief minute to say good bye.
9:45 AM
Parents may drop off forms or ask questions in the school office. We will try our best to help all those with questions. Please be patient if there is a long line.
10:00 AM
All cars will need to be moved from the school parking lot.
10:00 AM - Snack
All students will have a snack and recess on the first day. Please make sure to pack a snack. Reminder: we are a nut-free school.
11:30 AM - Dismissal for preschool & pre-k - No Extended Care
11:40 AM
Carpool Lane Opens for cars to begin lining up for 1st - 8th pick up.
To avoid traffic jams along the road, please space your arrival times.
12:00 PM Dismissal for K-8 - No Extended Care
Students in grades 1-8 will be dismissed through the carpool lanes in the school parking lot. Kindergarten students (and their older siblings) are dismissed at the Church.
4:00 PM
School office closes
| |
Carpool Pick Up and Drop Off
|
**Please note: there is no morning carpool on the first day of school as you will park and accompany your child to Mass at 8:30 AM. There will be afternoon carpool pick up.**
Carpool Information:
- Students in grades K-8 are dropped off in the carpool lane in the mornings. Preschool and Pre-K students will be dropped off in their designated locations. Kindergarten students (and any older siblings) do not use the afternoon carpool lanes; they are picked up at the Church in the afternoons.
- There are 4 lanes of traffic when you enter the parking lot. You can pick any lane.
- Pull forward to the solid yellow line in front of the Art/Music Portable
- Wait until the Patrol Pointer signals you to pull forward and then you will pull forward in a single-file line
- Pull all the way forward in the semi circle and then drop off/pick up students
- Parents are to remain in their cars. Staff and patrol students will be outside to assist students to and from cars on the passenger side of the vehicle.
- Please make sure there is a clear path for students to enter and exit your vehicle - check for loose water bottles or anything that could fall out or imped easy access.
- For younger students, the next two weeks would be a great time to practice buckling and unbuckling independently.
Please be patient with carpool the first few weeks of school. Remember to drive the speed limit around the school and drive even slower in the school parking lot. We have lots of children and adults in the area during dismissal which requires careful driver attention; therefore, do not use your cell phones during carpool. Drivers with only a learning permit are not allowed to drive in carpool. When exiting the parking lot, cars must turn right. Thank you for your cooperation.

Seeking Middle School Elective Teachers

Greetings St. Brendan Families!
The Middle School Team is currently looking for some awesome parents/volunteers to teach electives this year (Fridays from 2:00-2:50; if we don’t have a Friday, or if there is an early release, there will not be an elective that day). We have had amazing electives in the past like Strategy Games, STEM, Chess, Horticulture, Drama, Cooking, Fine Arts, Spanish, Legos/Robotics, Web Design, Guitar, Gardening, etc. We are always open to new and exciting offerings for our students, so we are absolutely willing to bounce around ideas if you are interested.
Currently we are looking to schedule our final elective offering for Trimester 1. If you are willing to teach a course to our amazing Middle School students or if you have a lead you can help contact, please let me know. This is a truly unique and fun way for us to reach out to our school community and beyond, so please help if you can. Elective teachers will also receive volunteer hours for their service to the school. Our middle school teachers and students appreciate your assistance with this.
Thank you!,

Hair - Hair must be neat, clean, with no artificial colors, and well groomed. If a student comes to school with colored hair or highlighted hair, they will be required to have it dyed back to their natural color within a time frame designated by the school. Hairstyles or colors that draw attention to the individual are not acceptable. Hair ornaments should complement the colors of the uniform and not be distracting. Hairstyles deemed distracting by the faculty and/or the administration are not appropriate.
Guideline for boys: hair to the top of the collar, off the ears, and above the eyebrows. Boys and girls are to keep their hair out of their eyes. Boys must be clean-shaven. Mohawks of any type are not allowed.
