We are STILL enjoying big catches of FAT Trout in the Steinhatchee River

Winter Trout and Red Fishing in Steinhatchee Florida
The Catch, Monday 2/23/15 Jewell, Captain Tony and Captain Jim

Jewell came down from Ringgold Georgia and fished with us again.  He makes the 8 hour trip about 6 times a year.  He took home a good mess of fish this time.

On Sunday, we were down to shorts and t-shirts with an afternoon high of around 80 degrees.  He arrived
back home to a gift of about 5 inches of snow.

The winter bite is still on, and we are still experiencing one of the absolute best times of the year to fish for sea trout and redfish!

This magical time wont be here much longer!
Now that's a nice "mess a fish!"

Fishing Report

Filed 2/26/15

As of Monday, 2/23/15 the trout and redfish were still in their winter pattern.  As always, the weather is a huge determinate in where the fish are and if they are going to feed.  The cooler nights are keeping the fish in the river.
Folks, this magical time of year is about to end!

Saturday of last week and Monday of this week saw the fish in the river as well as in some of the deeper holes in the creeks.  The river bite was strong again. On both days the trout fed all day, but most heavily in the afternoon, trolling lures in the river.

This is a great time to fish.  Cool days and near perfect weather can be enjoyed in the next few weeks as the Trout continue to hold their winter pattern.  This is absolutely My FAVORITE time of year to fish!

Scallop season is JUST AROUND THE CORNER.
That special time of year when we are blessed with the opportunity to jump out of the boat and collect those delectable crustaceans is about to be upon us.

If you have never done it, it is an absolute blast.  We swim the clear waters in the grass flats of the Gulf of Mexico.  Some equate it to an "adult Easter Egg hunt."

Most who try it are hooked, and come back again and again.  Many go every weekend!
