FOUNDATION NEWS
Information & updates about the Foundation and its programs
The French-American Foundation congratulates 1998 Young Leader Antony Blinken on his Senate confirmation as Joe Biden’s Secretary of State.

Antony Blinken (born April 16, 1962) is an American government official and diplomat who served as Deputy National Security Advisor from 2013 to 2015 and Deputy Secretary of State from 2015 to 2017 under President Barack Obama. He was confirmed to be the 71st United States Secretary of State by the United States Senate this January 26, 2021 by a vote of 78-22, succeeding Mike Pompeo. The position is the most senior Cabinet position, with the secretary fourth in the line of presidential succession. His confirmation was welcomed by lawmakers on both sides of the aisle as well as the professional association for the US Foreign Service.

During his confirmation hearing last week, Blinken pledged to re-engage with Congress on key foreign policy concerns. He faces the challenges of restoring America’s standing in the world and reinvigorating a department where many felt demoralized under the past administration. He is a strong proponent of turning to international alliances to further U.S. interests. He is expected to start work on Wednesday, January 27 after being sworn in, according to State Department officials.
Since his selection as a Young Leader, Antony Blinken has supported the work of the French-American Foundation by attending events which explored foreign policy, intervention and NATO.

The Young Leaders Program is the Foundation’s flagship program that brings together an incredible group of leaders from every possible background, all in the name of forging bonds between France and the United States. WEEKLY FOCUS
Coronavirus vaccine
"As vaccine production falls behind schedule, and the European Union lags in inoculating people, Brussels and London are lobbing threats and accusations at each other. (...)"

"The vaccines are phenomenal. Belaboring their imperfections—and telling people who receive them never to let down their guard—carries its own risks. (...)"

"When the city of Philadelphia announced its “unique public/private partnership” to create a mass vaccination clinic with an upstart nonprofit called Philly Fighting COVID in early January, it seemed like an objectively good thing. (...)"

"The U.S. rollout of the Covid-19 vaccine, managed individually by states instead of by the federal government, has been largely uneven and confusing to many seeking the vaccines. (...)"

French Institute Alliance Program (FIAF)
Streamed Live Concert from FIAF Florence Gould Hall, World Premiere
Thursday, January 28 at 7:00 pm ET

Melissa Errico & Adam Gopnik
Love, Desire & Mystery
— Il Parle, Elle Chante

Broadway star Melissa Errico and New Yorker essayist and lyricist Adam Gopnik return to the FIAF stage to present an evening of music and conversation about desire.
This LIVE concert considers the French art of seduction and its American responses. In particular, it dives into the ways sex has become entangled in other matters of pleasure and life. Appetites for love and food, a classic French pairing, take up much of the evening, with songs from Gopnik’s musical Our Table and the Broadway adaptation of The Baker’s Wife. The second half of the evening focuses on the equally potent French duo of seduction and fashion. Selections include Funny Face, Coco, French art songs, and the best of Broadway. Learn more.
