Bowdoin held its annual Convocation ceremony in Pickard Theater, Memorial Hall, on September 2, 2024, with an audience full of faculty, staff, and students from the Class of 2028.

The Class of 2028 Has Arrived!

Arrival day meant lugging and hugging for the Class of 2028 and their families as they said goodbye for now to parents and loved ones and began to embrace this new chapter of their lives. Check out the time-lapse video by photographer Michele Stapleton capturing the day's events (above) and read about the campus welcome and view a slideshow of images from those first moments in the lives of the newest Polar Bears.

Orientation Trips Set the Stage for the Adventure Ahead

First-years returned to campus from Orientation trips to a celebratory evening of food trucks, games, and a DJ—all as a way to acclimate to campus, meet returning students, and relax a bit before the start of the academic year.

Honoring Fundraising Efforts across the Years

Individuals and class years spanning five decades were recognized with Alumni Council awards for their exemplary efforts, as Bowdoin alumni continued their impressive work on behalf of the College over the 2023–2024 academic year.

Kent Island: A Summer in Images

With each summer comes a new opportunity for a unique learning experience as a handful of students head to the Bowdoin Scientific Station on Kent Island, several miles off the mainland in the Bay of Fundy. It offers students a rare chance to live with few distractions while focusing on scientific or artistic pursuits.

Students Gain Extra Career Points during Summer

Even with jobs or internships, many students had some free time over the summer, making it a perfect time to pick up and develop an industry-specific skill. The Office of Career Exploration and Development (CXD) had just the thing.

A Proud Moment Linking Three Generations of the Bowdoin Community

Marko Melendy, Bowdoin's animal welfare and facilities manager, and his nephew and baseball team member Jackson Melendy '26 unearthed a baseball signed some eighty-six years ago by star athlete Oakley Melendy ’39, Marko's father and Jackson's grandfather. Oak, as he was known, "pretty much excelled at every sport he did," and also played on the football and hockey teams, helping both to great success.

Athletics Season Underway

The fall sports season kicked off with a pair of soccer matches on Tuesday evening as the men’s soccer team defeated the University of New England while the women’s team played to a scoreless draw with Hartford in a battle of nationally ranked teams.

Most of the remaining fall sports teams get underway this week, including field hockey, cross country, volleyball, sailing, and women’s rugby. A full calendar of events can be found at GoUBears.com.

Pickard Field Renovations Now Fully Complete
