Hello All,
We did it! I am delighted to announce that, thanks to your support, Rebuilding Together Montgomery County has achieved our goal to serve 150 vulnerable families this fiscal year! That’s nearly 400 neighbors in need who are now living in safer, healthier homes.
It’s been a tremendous team effort and I am grateful to the RTMC Board, our volunteers, donors, and community partners for their steadfast support, guidance, hard work, and generosity. Thank you!
I also want to express my tremendous gratitude to our terrific RTMC staff team who has worked diligently day in and day out to serve our homeowners:
-
Lindsay Luhn, Senior Manager of Program Services
-
Mat Saunders, Home Assessment and Project Coordinator
-
Christina Devlin, Office Manager
-
Joni Keaton, Development and Communications Coordinator
-
Karen Kozopas, AmeriCorps Client Outreach Coordinator
-
Beki Mitiku, AmeriCorps Volunteer Coordinator
-

To celebrate achieving our goal of serving 150 vulnerable families in Montgomery County this fiscal year, the team participated in a star ceremony last week to highlight and officially close out several of the most recent projects we completed.
Every homeowner approved for services with RTMC has a heart on our wall with their name. A star ceremony is the final step of the process after we complete repairs for them, where we place a gold star sticker over their heart.
Star ceremonies are an opportunity for our team to celebrate the work we have completed for our homeowners and ground ourselves in our mission and vision of creating safe homes and communities for everyone. We love seeing those gold stars go up on the wall!

She Builds with ABC of Metro Washington
|
That's a wrap on our 2022 She Builds with ABC of Metro Washington! She Builds is a program at RTMC that brings together women in the community to support other women in need. She Builds projects are organized, led, and completed entirely by women! We partner with ABC of Metro Washington and the Women Building Washington Committee on a She Builds project each year that directly supports women in our community.
This year, we had 23 women from 13 companies join us to revitalize Stepping Stones Shelter, a nonprofit that provides emergency shelter and post-shelter support for homeless families with children. During the project day, volunteers painted the ramp and landings in the backyard, painted the railings along the back porch, constructed and painted three brand new picnic tables, revamped the picnic table area by weeding and laying new rubber mulch, and did extensive landscaping. A huge thank you to all the women who came out to volunteer, and a special shout out to House Captains Apryl Webb, Teralynn Marvel, Maria Snyder, and Libby Mendiratta for leading the team!

Lindsay joined the staff at RTMC in August 2019 as the Program Manager and was promoted to Senior Manager of Program Services in February 2021. She saw the organization through one of its most difficult periods when the Covid-19 pandemic set in, and has been instrumental in leading the program team and helping to implement new processes since then to assist more homeowners than ever before. Lindsay's compassion for our homeowners and commitment to our mission is inspiring, and we are so grateful that she chose to dedicate her talents to RTMC over the past three years. We caught up with Lindsay to learn more about her history with RTMC:
RTMC: How did you first become involved in RTMC?
Lindsay: I came to RTMC as a first-time house captain with the Mill Creek Parish UMC NRD team in 2019. I was thrown into a wonderful project in Rockville helping fix up Ms. G’s home, and was instantly hooked on doing home repairs for local neighbors. Shortly after the project, the program manager position came open and I applied that same day. I was later told that the team had just been commenting that I should apply for the role – the rest is history!
RTMC: What was your favorite part about being at RTMC?
Lindsay: My favorite part of being at RTMC has been facilitating all of the amazing connections, friendships, and relationships. There is such a special group of homeowners, volunteers, corporate partners, contractors, and staff that all come together to make Montgomery County a better place to live. When I see people who met through RTMC continue as friends for years down the road, I know that we’re making a difference in this community beyond fixing houses.
Lindsay's last day with RTMC will be this Wednesday, June 29th. Thank you, Lindsay, for your countless contributions to RTMC and for being a role model to our community, for always leading with kindness and for helping to ensure that so many of our neighbors in Montgomery County are now living in safer homes. Though we are sad to see you go, we wish you all the best on the journey ahead and know you will shine wherever it takes you!

Homeowner Stories: Our Neighbor, Ms. S.
Ms. S. in her home in Silver Spring
Ms. S. has been living in her home in Silver Spring for over 50 years. At 83 years old, Ms. S. manages multiple chronic health and mobility issues, and needed assistance to ensure her home would continue to be a safe place for her to live. Our partners at Transformation Contractor, LLC re-secured the handrail leading up to her front door, removed damaged concrete in the driveway of the home and poured a new patch, replaced wood on top of the deck railing, and installed a new handrail leading to the basement. We are so glad that Ms. S. now feels more confident and secure in her home and will be able to age safely in place.
