The B.A.A. Medical Team is proud to announce its sponsorship of a medical study to occur at the 2024 Boston Marathon focusing on kidney stress and gastrointestinal permeability. The study will be conducted by sports scientists from the University of Arkansas.

Enrollment in the study is limited to 150 Boston time qualifiers without kidney, cardiac, liver, bladder, or gastrointestinal conditions or diseases that may affect results. Participants will be asked to complete a survey, provide a urine sample before and after the marathon, and blood samples at the Expo and post-marathon. All participants will receive results on personal hydration practices, helping to plan for your future races and facilitate faster recovery!

Speaking of smiles, we want to kick off this series by reminding you all to have fun on race day and SMILE for the camera. Marathon Foto photographers will be all along the course, so be sure to wave as you make your way towards Boylston!

Kenya’s Kelvin Kiptum was a bright star in the running community, inspiring many with his record runs and performances at Abbott World Marathon Majors events. We had looked forward to welcoming him to the roads of Boston in future years, and were moved by how he covered the marathon distance with grace and determination.

We extend our thoughts and sympathies to Kelvin’s family and friends, as well as those of his coach Gervais Hakizimana.
