Benefit and Pension Funds' Boards of Trustees Meet this Month

The 1199SEIU Benefit and Pension Funds’ Boards of Trustees will hold their annual meetings on Monday, June 24, Tuesday, June 25, and Wednesday, June 26, to review the work of 2023. Funds leadership will update Trustees on our expanding Healthy Living initiatives, quality care and plan improvements, and the emerging importance of how adopting a healthy lifestyle can improve overall health. The Benefit Funds will also recognize two members who—through our partnership with WeightWatchers® and their mutual support—were able to achieve their personal health goals. Sharing their success, they will serve as Health Ambassadors to help inspire and motivate their fellow members to take control of their own well-being. In addition, celebrity guest chef Adrienne Cheatham will offer tips on how to prepare nutritious meals without sacrificing flavor. A finalist in season 15 of Top Chef and former Chef de Cuisine for the Marcus Samuelsson Group, Chef Cheatham will also treat Trustees to a healthy cooking demo. The meetings will be held onsite at Funds Headquarters at 498 Seventh Avenue. For more information, please contact Tess Tolentino at Tess.Tolentino@1199Funds.org.

Benefit Funds Launch Dependent Eligibility Verification Program

The 1199SEIU Benefit Funds have launched their 2024 Dependent Eligibility Verification Program, again conducted by HMS, a firm that specializes in healthcare eligibility verification. The program verifies the marital status of the spouses of 1199SEIU members and retirees, to protect benefit dollars and help ensure they and their eligible spouses continue to receive quality healthcare coverage. If your 1199SEIU employees and members have questions about the program, they may contact HMS at (866) 252-0527 to avoid interruption in their spouses’ coverage.

Training and Employment Funds Offer High School Equivalency Programs

The 1199SEIU Training and Employment Funds (TEF) offer two high school equivalency programs for members to complete high school requirements and obtain a diploma. The GED Program, available in English and Spanish, prepares members to take the GED exam, which includes tests on reading and writing, math, science, and social studies. Classes are held online three days a week in the morning or evening. Members’ spouses, parents or children ages 21 and older can also enroll. The National External Diploma Program (NEDP) is a non-test-based independent study in which members work one-on-one with an assessor to complete a series of skills and academic tasks that will be evaluated and approved by New York State. The NEDP program is available in English only. For more information, members may contact Adrienne Simmons at Adrienne.Simmons@1199Funds.org or (646) 574-5024, Yajaira Tejada at Yajaira.Tejada@1199Funds.org or (212) 894-4363, or Matthew Czajkowski at Matthew.Czajkowski@1199Funds.org or (212) 494-0535.
