Hello Slim People!

I walked into a seafood restaurant and asked them if they served crabs. They said...

"We serve everybody."

Slimsational Slim People,

Before we dig into Ten Days of Slimness, I need to remind you about a couple things...

Come see the Rat Pack Duo! We play every Wednesday at 6 PM in July and August at Larkspur Grill in the Hotel Paseo in beeyooteeful Palm Desert, CA.

Chase plays sax, I sing. We do all those fabulous Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Nat King Cole songs.

And we're also doing special gigs there on Thursday, August 15th and Saturday August 24!

Baby, it's cool inside. Ain't that a kick in the head!

And on Tuesday, August 13th, the Slim Man Band returns to Laguna Beach for a really big show at the Festival of Arts.

Chase Huna on sax, Craig Chesnut on drums, Tateng Katindig on piano and a very special guest will be sitting in!

Like who?

Like we don't know yet!

We're still sending out invitations. Taylor Swift has yet to get back to us...

All details on concert info is down below and on the Slim Site.

And get some merch while you're at it!

AND NOW THE REAL NEW REAL NEWS FROM SLIM'S SHADY TRAILER PARK

The following is the recap of my recent return to my hometown of Baltimore, Maryland. I will try to condense those ten days into 1,000 words. However, most of them are small, and there are lots of photos...

DAY 1 Friday July 5th

I drove to Palm Springs Airport in the morning. It's one of my favorite airports. It's open air, and it's really quite lovely...

Except when it's 124 degrees outside, which it was that day. A new record!

Day 2 Saturday

Hit Man Howie Z and I cruised to Catonsville Gourmet for a soft-shell crab sandwich. My dad used to tell me my music was like ginger ale...it's not for everybody.

And soft-shell crabs?

They're not for everybody. The first person to eat one must have been really hungry, because they look like tarantulas.

But I love the way they taste. Delizioso!

Day 3 Sunday

I visited the girls, my sister, the nieces and their kids. Their dad, G Money, bought a couple dozen steamed Maryland blue crabs. I ate eight!

Hanging out with the kids...it filled me up, Slim People. Those girls are so joyful. And lively!

After the crab feast, I suggested we write a song. So I grabbed a three-string white plastic guitar and asked them what they wanted to write about...

Crabs!

So, they dug up a red magic marker and a sheet of paper. I recommended they start with a catchy opening line...

They came up with, "I LOVE CRABS! They're really rad. We got them from our big hairy dad."

Well, it was a good start. Might include it on the next Slim CD!

After our Singalong with Slim, we headed to the community pool for a birthday party for a 5-year-old. There were a couple dozen youngsters sitting in the grass by the side of the pool.

A Hawaiian dancer came out and lit the ends of two batons on fire. Then he started tossing and twirling them in the air.

Not sure if that was the safest thing to do with the young'uns just a couple feet away. But if any of them caught fire, the pool was close by!

Day 4 Monday

Howie and I met our Italian friends Don Pietro and Don Davide at a beautiful place just off the Magothy River called The Point.

I had a crab cake that was one of the best I've ever had. Crab meat has become ridiculously expensive...they needed a gurney to get me out of there because that crab cake cost an arm and a leg!

Day 5 Tuesday

When I checked my email in the morning, I was pleasantly surprised to read that the Bona Fide single, Bombay Beach, had reached Number One!

And then I fed nuts to the squirrel that stops by Howie's back porch every day. How do you get a squirrel to come up on the porch?

Show him your nuts!

Day 6 Wednesday

Howie and I did the Rat Pack Duo show at La Scala in Little Italy. It's the best Italian restaurant in Maryland! The owner, Nino, is a good amico of ours. And an amazing chef! We set up on the bocce ball court.

I sang and Howie beat on the bongos as the Slim People wined and dined in front of us.

It was a benefit for the Mt. Washington Pediatric Hospital, a place where I volunteered for more than 8 years.

We raised a lot of dough! Nino threw in a lot of dough. And not pizza dough! We're talkin' moolah!

Thanks to all who donated and partied for a good cause.

Day 7 Thursday

I met my dear friend Kathy McCabe for lunch. I've known her since I was a teenager. Back in the 1800s!

She's pretty amazing. She did a documentary a few years back about the Beatles assistant, Freda Kelly. Freda was with the Beatles from the very beginning until the end. Kathy's documentary, Good Ol' Freda, is still available on Amazon Prime.

I saw it when it premiered at the Nashville Film Festival. It's really good. Worth a look, Slim People!

Day 8 Friday

I prepped and practiced and cooked all day. I cooked chicken Milanese, one of my most favorite things to eat before a big show.

And if I'm making chicken Milanese, I gotta have some pasta with tomato sauce. She's a-so nice!

Day 9 Saturday July 13

I got a call from promoter Big Vic who told me the show at Encore was sold out. Two of my favorite words! When Howie and I pulled up to the venue, the whole gang was there...

Shea Welsh on guitar, Rick O'Rick on piano, John E Coale on drums, and Kevin Levi on sax. We even had a stage manager that night...John Schweitzer!

I kicked off the show with a couple songs from the Pennies from Heaven CD.

And then?

Mallory Gersh came up and sang Something Stupid with me. It was originally done as a duet with Frank Sinatra and his daughter Nancy, but I thought it might be cool to do it with Mallory.

Mallory's mom organized a Rat Pack Show back in May with me and Howie and Sax Man Chase Huna. She told me Mallory was quite a singer, so I asked her to join me at Encore. And she nailed it!

Mallory exited stage left to thunderous applause and then the Slim Man Band came on and...

They were in rare form! Sounded sooo good.

In the middle of the show, I played End of the Rainbow on guitar. I dedicated it to my niece, Carly, who was in the audience.

I sang it at her wedding. And now, 12 years later, I sang it for them again. It was a show stoppa!

The Slim Man Band launched into Bombay Beach, and we ended the night with Let the Good Times Roll. BootCamp piano player Tom Alonso came up and tickled the ivories and he was stunningly good.

We got a standing ovation. Or maybe folks were just in a hurry to get to the bathroom!

After the show, we had a wonderful meet and greet. It was a delight to catch up with the Slim Folks. Did my heart good to see you good-looking and above-average Slim People with excellent taste in music!

The next day, I flew from Baltimore to Palm Springs.

There had been a record 22 days in a row of 110 degrees and above in Palm Springs. Seriously!

The next day, it cooled off a bit. The high was only 106!

Keep in touch. And keep cool!

It's all about love.

Who loves ya?
