Dear LTHS Parents/Guardians & Students,

I hope this email finds you having had a wonderful weekend and our students enjoying the snow day.

I would like to start by sharing some celebrations.

  • Yesterday, I had the chance to cheer on our Varsity Poms and Varsity Competitive Cheer Teams as they competed at the West Suburban Conference Invite at Hinsdale South.  Congratulations to Head Coach Brittany Smith and our Poms Team and Head Coach Sharon Lupo and Competitive Cheer Team on taking first place in the WSC!  The JV teams also had successful finishes with JV Competitive Cheer also taking first place and JV Poms finishing 2nd.
  • Congratulations to LTTV student Ben Cunin Alvarado as his commercial, "LEGO - The Purrfect House" which won a Crystal Pillar from the National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Chicago/Midwest chapter has now been nominated for a National award.  This means that Ben's commercial is a finalist (top 5 in the nation).  The winner will be announced on February 1, 2024.  Again, congratulations to Ben and teacher/advisor Bill Allan on this amazing achievement.

Excellence, Innovation, and Empowerment Series

As we continue to focus on our communication efforts, I am excited to share that we are continuing the Excellence, Innovation, and Empowerment video series to help us tell the LT story! We post and share videos that highlight programs, students, and staff! This video series helps us bring our mission statement to life as we highlight the amazing people and programs that make LT so special.

I am excited to share with you our first three videos of this school year:

  • Our Adaptive PE Leaders Program creates leadership opportunities for LT students as well as positive interactions between special education students and general education students. This semester-long class has created a truly unique experience for students here at LT.
  • Enjoy the Spotlight of Senior Student Mark DeMonte! He is an incredible student and has truly embraced his LT experience while making a significant impact within our Best Buddies program and WLTL.
  • Our INCubatoredu Course is designed to get students excited about becoming true entrepreneurs by giving them the opportunity to create and fully develop their own product or service. Over the course of the year, student teams will learn about marketing, accounting, and human resources, as well as the legal aspects of running business to get them geared up for Pitch Week.

I look forward to continuing to share and celebrate our special LT story!

Course Registration for 2024-2025 School Year

On Wednesday, January 17, Drew Eder, LT Division Chair for Counseling and Student Services, will be sending a communication to all families about course registration for the 2024-25 school year. This week, students in grades 9-11 will have a chance to attend a group presentation during their PE class in which counselors will share course sequences, selection timelines, necessary prerequisite information, etc.

Later this month or early next month, your student will have a chance to meet with their grade-level counselor to enter final course selections for the 2024-25 school year into Infinite Campus. These meetings will take place during English class as teachers will take their classes to meet with counselors to finalize course selection during this time. In preparation for this process, we hope that you and your student will continue to discuss their academic experience at Lyons Township High School; we hope you and your student take the time to explore what paths are most appropriate given their academic strengths, areas of interest, and post-secondary goals.

Please contact your student’s counselor to discuss opportunities or ask questions and help you make the most informed decision for your student’s schedule.

5Essentials Student Survey

During 4th and 5th period classes on Wednesday, January 24, 2024, students will have an opportunity to participate in the Illinois 5Essentials Survey as mandated by the Illinois State Board of Education. This research-based survey designed by the University of Chicago asks students about the supportiveness of the school environment and ambitiousness of instruction. Survey questions can be found on the Illinois 5Essentials Support Center

Individual student responses to this survey remain confidential; aggregate results will be published online in conjunction with the annual Illinois Report Card in the fall of 2024. The survey takes approximately 30 minutes to complete and will be administered online. Student state identification numbers and birthdates are used to authenticate access to the survey, but are not tied to individual student responses.

The survey is voluntary and parents had an opportunity to opt their students out of the survey during online registration. Students who were opted out of the survey will not be able to log in to take the survey and any student who chooses not to take the survey will be asked to work quietly while others complete the survey. Please direct any questions about the survey to Kristine Zieman, Coordinator of Assessment, at kzieman@lths.net

Thank you for your continued support and participation toward improving our school!
