APP SPOTLIGHT

UCSF APP Fellowship Program Award Accreditation With Distinction


APPFA is American Nurses Credentialing Center's new credential recognizing comprehensive transition-to-practice programs for PA and APRNs to develop the knowledge and skills to deliver safe, quality care in their specialty area of practice. The accreditation with distinction requires demonstration of exemplary and innovative practice across all domains of the program. The accreditation was granted to the Cancer Services APP Fellowship (2021) and Surgical and Critical Care Medicine APP Fellowship (2014). The fellowships are made possible only through the support of the APP fellows by all the dedicated preceptors, educators, physicians, and leaders. Read more here.

Rebecca Silvers, NP Wins Innovations Funding Award


The Haile T. Debas Academy of Medical Educators announced twenty-three new Innovations Funding awards for the 2024-2025 academic year. The intramural grants address a range of priorities in teaching and learning approaches and curricular content areas and are expected to make significant contributions to educational excellence at UCSF.   The award will allow Silvers and her colleagues to update UCSF’s inter-professional Global Health Training Pathway from a transformative, anti-oppressive lens. Keith Jabonillo, NP Recognized As The Next UCSF Health Lean Champion


Keith is the APP Critical Care Supervisor who joins a dynamic group of APP leaders who have earned the distinction of UCSF Health Champion. He demonstrated knowledge and comprehension of fundamental principles regarding continuous improvement. He plans to bring these learnings to the APP critical care staff to engage in critical thinking and operational problem solving.

NPIII Featured by UC Law School


Courtney Gordon, NP in the UCSF Care at Home Program is highlighted for her work in partnership with the Medical Legal Partnership for Seniors. Law students help low-income seniors keep their housing, obtain public benefits, plan for the future, and navigate other complex legal challenges. Read full story here.

Jen Viner, NPIII Gives Talk in Salt Lake City


Jennifer Viner, DNP, ANP-BC, CNRN gave a talk entitled "The Feasibility of a Nurse Practitioner-Led Neuro-Oncology Consult Service" at the American Association of Neuroscience Nurses Annual Meeting APP Symposium. The talk was on 3/17/24 and took place Salt Lake City, Utah

Promotion Within The Cardiology Department


The Cardiology department announces the promotion of Amanda Schnell Heringer MS, RN, AGCNS-BC to Cardiology Nurse Director. Leading the Cardiology Clinical Teams at all sites, and in collaboration with our Contact Center leaders and Clinic leadership, Amanda will continue supporting our growing team, work on refining and implementing our ambulatory nursing and clinical standards. Amanda brings years of clinical experience, expertise & enthusiastic support to our nursing team.

Recognition of the First Inter-professional Simulation-Based Procedure Course


Held at the Center for Nursing Excellence & Innovation, a multidisciplinary group taught skills covering central venous catheter placement, thoracentesis, paracentesis and lumbar puncture. This collaboration was sparked by a proactive initiative from Will Wood, ED APP Manager, who recognized the value of simulation-based education in equipping their team and essential procedural skills. In February APPs from Critical Care and the Emergency Department refined their technique and potential challenges in a safe setting before performing procedures on an actual patient.

UCSF School of Nursing Names New Dean Carol Dawson-Rose, RN, PhD, FAAN

 

Carol brings more than 35 years of experience to the role, as well as a passion for advancing research, education, and diversity. She currently leads the UCSF School of Nursing’s Department of Community Health Systems, in which she holds the James P. and Marjorie A. Livingston Chair in Nursing Excellence.

In her new role, which begins April 16, Carol will lead a significant transformation in the school’s educational programs as it expands its Doctor of Nursing Practice program, enabling UCSF to fully train and support the nurse leaders of the future. She also will serve as associate vice chancellor for Nursing Affairs and will be a member of my Cabinet alongside our other campus leaders. Read more here.

UCSF Health Controlled Substance Waste Bin Implementation

 

UCSF Health is partnering with Stericycle to implement CsRx controlled substance specific waste disposal bins across the system. The new bins employ a secure one-way path of waste disposal, supports UCSFs sustainability efforts and comply with DEA requirements related to our controlled substance waste stream. CsRx installation and go-live is April 2 - April 19, 2024. All clinical and support staff can access the e-learning and equipment overview via the UC Learning.  For more information.

UCSF Taking Steps to Ensure Employee Safety


In response to attempted robbery of a faculty member leaving the Mt Zion campus hospital late in the evening, the following steps have been taken

  • two new security officers will be assigned to Mt Zion. UCSF police department will increase area patrols and ensure front desk coverage
  • UCSF Health is working with the police chief to implement new technology to reduce crime around all campuses
  • Staff and faculty should download the UCSF SAFE application to their phone to ask for a security escort during off hours.

We want all employees to feel safe at work and will continue to make changes to improved the security of all campuses in collaboration with the security teams and police

Join team captain for the UCSF Just Go With The Flow, Krisztina Emodi, NP urology oncology, to raise funds and awareness about bladder cancer. 

The funds goes directly to the national organization BCAN to support young investigators, clinical trials, patient and caregivers, patient summits.
