I was having a conversation with Alaa the other day about a recent experience she had. She told me that gyms really scared her but not anymore. I asked her why and what changed? She said she had no idea how to use any of the equipment and she really didn't want to look inexperienced or draw attention to herself when she went to work out. She didn't want anyone else to judge her. So she signed up to work with a trainer for 3 sessions and after that she gained the confidence to work out in the gym. In fact she now LOVES it!

This story really struck a chord in me. I realized that anytime I started working out in a new gym I was nervous too. The difference was that I was knowledgeable about exercise and the equipment and so even if the environment was new the general equipment wasn't. As a PT I have a strong knowledge of exercise so I have always felt comfortable working out but not always comfortable in a gym setting.

In fact, I only recently started using free weights and hated hearing people grunting and groaning and sometimes yelling as they lifted the heavy weights in the gym.

So I started working out at home and that has been great for me. But I understand that not everyone has the space to set up a home gym (for the record my gym is in my living room, the weights are by the window and I roll out my mat on my living room carpet when I want to work out- LOL!).

When I originally reached out to you, our patients, about setting up a gym, I had tons of positive feedback. However, not many people have actually signed up to join the gym and Alaa's story made me realize that even though many of you would feel safe working out here, it doesn't mean you know how to.

So I would like to offer you a deal-- if you sign up to workout in the gym, I will meet with you and give you a fitness training session, at no extra cost, to help you get familiar with our equipment AND set up a workout routine for you that is personalized to what you are looking for! What are you waiting for? Sign up for your gym membership and get a free training session with me at no extra cost!

In the meantime, consider starting with some simple exercises to help build strength without equipment and just using your own body weight. Squats, lunges and push ups are great options. Below is a video on how to do a plank which is a challenging full body exercise.

Our fitness programming is up and RUNNING!!! You can now join our CLINIC GYM for a small monthly fee and also set up 1:1 fitness training with one of our PTs. Do you want to build strength but don't know how to do this OR don't have any equipment/ space at home?

You can join our gym to work on building strength. You can cancel at any time. You will need 'gym-exclusive' footwear if you want to wear shoes in the clinic (this means you don't wear these shoes outside of the clinic so they stay clean and continue to adhere to our 'no-shoe policy'.) But otherwise you just wear what you feel comfortable exercising in.

The gym is open during our business hours which are the following times:

Monday-Thursday 7:15am-6:30pm and Friday 8am-4pm.

Go HERE to sign up for the monthly gym membership. AND don't forget-- you get 1 complimentary fitness session with ME!

Not sure what to do in the gym? Want to have some guidance ahead of time? Sign up for one-on-one fitness training sessions with one of our PTs. These sessions are 45 minutes in length and will give you an opportunity to tailor your gym workouts to your personal goals.

You can purchase sessions to workout with the PTs HERE.
