Celebrating Graduations & Student Success
Ädelbrook Academy in Cromwell joyfully celebrated six remarkable twenty-two-year-old students as they transitioned out of the program and six additional students who will continue their education at the Ädelbrook Transitional Academy. Director of Education, Allyssa Mullins, along with her dedicated team, went above and beyond to make this milestone truly unforgettable. Framed photos, heartfelt messages from staff, certificates of achievement, and a delightful luncheon were just some of the highlights shared with the graduates and their families.
While the students at the Cromwell Academy will be missed dearly by staff and friends, this celebration marks an exciting new chapter, as many students are transitioning to the Adelbrook Transitional Academy in Middletown.
In early May, students from the Cromwell Academy performed a fun and engaging concert at Covenant Living of Cromwell, singing popular songs such as "Do-Re-Mi" from the Sound of Music and other popular lyrics thanks to our music teacher, Jacob Boergesson, who orchestrated the performance. This fantastic event provided students with the opportunity to strengthen their social and motor skills while placing smiles on the faces of so many residents at Covenant Living! In addition to off-campus opportunities, students also practice their vocational skills through initiatives such as the ÄdelbrookCARES Food Pantry and Cromwell Academy Coffee Shop.
Exemplary of our commitment to excellence, one of our amazing students, "Nate", received the "Spirit of Life Award" from the Special Olympics of Connecticut. Nate has been a dedicated member of the CT Special Olympics since he was 11 years old! In addition to his tenure, he regularly demonstrates patience and kindness and always does his best. He truly embodies the spirit of Ädelbrook!

Students Journey Onward from the Transitional Academy in Middletown
This month marked a season of new beginnings at the Ädelbrook Transitional Academy (ATA). According to our Director of Education, Jackie Peck, "There isn't a camera lens big enough to capture the love, care, progress, pride and happiness that has been effervescing at the ATA with each graduation celebration." One of our graduates expressed their feelings around graduation through the statement, "Thank you for everything and this is not goodbye this is see you later." To capture the impact of the Transitional Academy, staff and students even created their very own Happy Graduation Song!
A staff member at the ATA also shared, "Graduation has always been a special event at Adelbrook. The individualized ceremonies at the ATA help capture the growth and accomplishments of the graduates. Ivy is a great example of what an individual can do when an ambitious and motivated student has a team to support them every step of the way. Her graduation was a visual representation of how much an individual can succeed with support."
This quote is a testament to the impact of the Transitional Academy's community-based vocational program. Through a Career Readiness Center and two vocational storefronts, Ädelbooks & More and the Ädelbrook Bark-ery in Middletown, CT, students learn and practice employment skills essential for the workforce. To learn more about Ädelbooks & More and the ATA's impact, watch our newest segment with Keith McGilvery on FOX61 News, "Preparing for the workforce."
While we will miss our students dearly, we know that the tools, resources, and support provided by the Transitional Academy will help them find achievement and hope in their next adventure!

Discover the impact of Ädelbrook in these messages from parents & guardians.
“When we were looking at different programs, we immediately knew that Ädelbrook was the right place for our son. Walking in, it was clear that the program was thoughtfully designed and organized around the students’ needs and abilities. Students are accepted as they are and staff are skilled at recognizing and maximizing each student’s potential. None of the other programs had the warmth, enthusiasm and feeling of home that we experienced at our first visit.”
“Ädelbrook has a phenomenal program with dedicated staff that look at each child as an individual. Ädelbrook helps students find success through life skills training, on the job coaching, and opportunities for daily social development.” | Ädelbrook has changed Ivana’s life. She is not only communicating verbally for the first time in her life, but she has also been given the tools and support needed to achieve her hopes and dreams.”
What Districts are Saying
|
"Our school district has students placed at both your Cromwell and Middletown campuses and as the Special Education Administrator in our district, I know that any student enrolled in Adelbrook schools is going to receive not only a good education, but also the social, emotional, and community supports that they need in order to be the best versions of themselves upon graduation.
When asked where to send a student, my number one response is always Adelbrook. I say with earnest, that they are the best schools in the state. I do not have to worry that a student with unusual needs will not have them met. I do not have concerns about the level of care and support that students will receive. I rest assured that together, Adelbrook and our district, are providing the best education that we can for each and every student placed there."
~ Marcia Robinson, Special Education Administrator USD2
