Wilmington, DE – Thursday, January 26, 2023 — YWCA Delaware has received $2,000 from the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation to help feed neighbors in their time of need. YWCA Delaware will use this gift to purchase food to support the meal program offered at its Home-Life Management Center, located at 709 N. Madison Street in Wilmington, Delaware.
"We are humbled by the Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation's generous contribution. This gift supports our ability to swiftly alleviate the stress and pain of hunger experienced by the women and families who enter our program. Only after we address participants' basic needs can we begin to redirect their focus on stabilizing and engaging in our wrap-around services," said Melissa K. Gonville, Interim CEO of YWCA Delaware.
For over 30 years, YWCA's Home-Life Management Center has housed homeless families, meeting their basic needs for food and shelter, and providing a spectrum of supportive services in a safe and welcoming environment. Services offered include case management, workforce development training, financial counseling, substance abuse prevention, culinary training, and wellness workshops that empower individuals to heal and reach their full economic potential. At least 85% of families leave homelessness behind due to the Home-Life Management Center program.
The Food Lion Feeds Charitable Foundation is committed to supporting families facing food insecurity across its 10-state footprint. Established in 2001, the foundation provides financial support for programs and organizations dedicated to feeding local neighbors in the communities it serves. Since its inception, the foundation has awarded more than $16 million in grants.
