Labor Council

Friday, September 11, 2020
The labor movement continues to lead the response to the COVID-19 pandemic and to fight for economic opportunity and social justice for America’s workers.
Due to the long weekend and short week, this edition of the Weekly News Update is abbreviated. It contains only a few very important pieces of information for you.
We'll be back in full next Friday.
COPE 2020
Fifth Years of Solidarity!
Dear Sisters, Brothers and Friends of Labor,

I hope this letter finds you safe and well. Hard to believe that I’m writing it the last day of August 2020. The year 2020 will certainly be remembered for all the changes and challenges it posed, but like most changes and challenges, I am confident in the Labor movement’s ability to adapt, adjust and overcome.

I’m writing to you today to ask you personally to support our upcoming COPE 2020 Event and Fundraiser. As you know, Cincinnati AFL-CIO annually hosts an evening of food and drink, featuring important national and state speakers with plenty of union solidarity and fellowship. However, due to COVID 19, we are forced to initiate a major change for this, our 50th Anniversary COPE Celebration. Instead of our regular dinner event, we are taking to the air and doing a live broadcast production that will feature great messages from Labor and Political leaders and a private showing of ‘9-5: The Story of a Movement,’ a new movie about the challenging experience of the union organizing movement of women office workers in the 1970s, by Academy Award Winning Directors, Steven Bognar and Julia Reichert, who most recently directed the Oscar-winning Netflix doc 'American Factory'.

Below is the flyer for this event, which is scheduled for Friday evening, September 25th. The Annual COPE dinner is an extremely important event for Cincinnati AFL-CIO Labor Council, to provides the necessary resources for our Committee On Political Education (COPE) to perform the important Labor 2020 election season work (voter registration, voter education and outreach, candidate slate cards) and elected Labor friendly, pro-working family candidates at the local, state and federal levels.
So, I’m asking you personally to support this event which we believe will be an excellent evening of powerful speakers and plenty of solidarity and fellowship. Despite the necessary changes, we fully expect that this new format will provide even greater opportunity to elevate the entire affair, so please contribute generously and join us on September 25th  to help us celebrate “Fifth Years of Solidarity” in the Greater Cincinnati region!

Thank you in advance and please let us know if you have any questions or require any further information.

Solidarity Forever, in U and I…

Vote Smart's mission is to provide free, factual, unbiased information on candidates and elected officials to ALL Americans. Citizens come together, not in selfish interest or to support one candidate over another, but to defend democracy.

Fact-checking journalism is the heart of PolitiFact. Our core principles are independence, transparency, fairness, thorough reporting and clear writing. The reason we publish is to give citizens the information they need to govern themselves in a democracy.

We are a nonpartisan, nonprofit “consumer advocate” for voters that aims to reduce the level of deception and confusion in U.S. politics. We monitor the factual accuracy of what is said by major U.S. political players in the form of TV ads, debates, speeches, interviews and news releases. Our goal is to apply the best practices of both journalism and scholarship, and to increase public knowledge and understanding.

We believe that American government should be “of the people, by the people, and for the people” and that an informed electorate is essential for a thriving democracy. We therefore seek to inform and educate voters by producing and posting comprehensive non-partisan voter information covering national and state elections and some local elections.
