As Website shows and previous Newsletter announced, Las Casitas has a beautiful new tennis court with lights. At times people have asked if we knew anyone to give tennis lessons for all ages. After a search we contracted with JAVIER GUTIÉRREZ who has been the Tennis Pro in Puerto Aventuras for past 15 years, but really likes giving lessons at Las Casitas new court. He is bi-lingual; very experienced having formerly been a teaching Pro at the Bollettieri Academy in Florida, and member of the Mexican National team.

Rates are reasonable; his time is flexible; and you can contact him directly to make arrangements. Contact info is in each Casita and front desk.

The Guardians are a group of dedicated people who support the sea turtle conservation program at the turtle camp.

Akumal is home to three species of sea turtles: green, loggerhead, and hawksbill. All turtles are endangered. Centro Ecologico Akumal is in charge of protecting the nesting sites in Half Moon Bay, Akumal Bay, Jade Bay, and South Akumal.

Requirement:

• Be available for mornings for 2 hours OR evenings for 3 hours".

Volunteers will:

• Help identify and document sea turtle nests.
• Protection and monitoring of hatchlings
• Protection and monitoring of nesting mother turtles and hatchlings

Most everyone who has stayed at Las Casitas has taken a snorkel or dive in front of our houses. And most people are asked afterwards “what did you see”? And nearly all of us have no clue what names to answer…and generally mumble something like “beautiful fish and turtles”! So finally we present nearly all of the most common fish, their names and sizes. You can even print this and bring to Akumal next time you come…and can now tell everyone what you saw.
