Plumbing Work Next Week

Starting on Monday April 24 they will be working on replacing some plumbing in the church. The work will take place over three days, Monday April 24 to Wednesday April 26. The water to the building will be turned off intermittently during this time and may affect office hours. Thank you for your understanding.

Our #PassTheClass program is in need of more tutors. If you are interested in tutoring, have any availability between 3:00 and 6:00 pm Mondays through Thursdays, and can get to the West View Hub, please email passtheclass.wvhub@gmail.com to be added to our tutoring roster.

This tutoring is for mostly North Hills School District students needing help in all grades and subjects. You can check out the West View HUB website for contact information or call me and we can arrange to go together to get familiar with the program, staff, and facilities.

Longvue Acres Garden Club Perennial Plant Sale

Saturday, May 20, 2023

Mark your calendars! The Longvue Acres Garden Club will host its 73 rd spring perennial plant sale, Saturday, May 20 th from 9:00 a.m. to Noon – Rain or Shine – in the lower parking lot of Northmont United Presbyterian Church, 8169 Perry Highway, McCandless. The CASH ONLY sale will feature more than 600 perennial plants including highly valued Pennsylvania natives and pollinators. Since the plants are grown in members’ gardens and donated for the sale, it’s always a surprise to see the variety of plants available from year to year. Avid gardeners will arrive early to snag the most sought-after plants that sell in the first hour. Club members, some of whom are Penn State Master Gardeners, will be available to answer gardening questions and to help with plant selections.

Plant sale proceeds generously fund monthly educational programs for the public and support the maintenance of the UPMC Passavant chapel garden. Additionally, funds raised in the plant sale support not only the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, Botanic Gardens of Western Pennsylvania, and North Area Environmental Council, but also local community gardens in McCandless and Ross Township. Longvue Acres Garden Club meets at 7:00 p.m. the fourth Tuesday of the month at Northmont U.P. Church.

For more information about the plant sale or Longvue Acres Garden club, please contact longvueacresgardenclub1950@gmail.com.

Wishing you all a blessed and joyous Easter.

Plea for help: Adult Handbells practice on Thursdays from 4:30-5:30. We are desperately in need of more ringers if we are to continue ringing. If you would like to join us, please contact me at stephen@northmontchurch.org. We usually ring once a month. A strong commitment and an ability to read music are needed. We will teach you how to ring if you haven’t. Handbells have been a vital part of Northmont’s music ministry over the years. It would be a shame to see this legacy end. Please consider joining us if you can.

If you are interested in knowing more about singing in the choir, please contact me at stephen@northmontchurch.org. Chancel Choir practices 6:30 - 8:30 most Thursdays and sings for worship throughout the school year. Requirements are a pleasing voice, the ability to read music, and a good sense of humor.

Outreach Opportunities

See our latest update!

The West View HUB has taken over a new space beside the existing HUB center. They are converting this previous store to support various forms of artistic experiences for children.

On Wednesdays they work from 8:00 AM to noon. Presently they need talents for adding drywall, finishing a suspended ceiling (with lights) in the sound room, completing the mounting for an exhaust fan, installing a utility tub, building another bathroom pipe-rack cover, and designing, building and installing a bench about 20 feet long. As time goes on, there will be additional items added to this changing list.

Frank Klein, rmk4124@hotmail.com, is coordinating this effort. Just text him expressing your interest, and he will include you in his weekly post of needs for the following Wednesday.
