FROM: Jeannie Montano , President & CEO, United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region

This week . . .

  • Lunch was on us during National Nurses Week for frontline caregivers at Northern Dutchess Hospital's The Thompson House that provides rehab for COVID and at Montefiore St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital.

  • 50 Veteran families in Dutchess & Orange counties are receiving the medications and hygiene items they desperately need.

  • We're sending 60 Lysol containers to the Food Bank of the Hudson Valley to clean and sterilize their facilities.

  • A struggling Dutchess County family is now able to transport their new baby in a new car seat

  • We're providing PPE and hygiene items for distribution to local families and for those who serve them.

  • We've provided masks for distribution to Newburgh who are homeless or in great need.

  • United Way's 2-1-1 Helpline received 9,739 COVID-19 related calls in the past ten weeks and more are received every hour.

  • Join us on June 24th at 6:00pm for a VIRTUAL Celebration of Service. We'll be celebrating our amazing community and it will be an hour you won't want to miss. Go to: uwdor.org/virtualcelebration2020

and we are continuing to respond to the daily needs of our community as the situation evolves.
We're almost there. You have 4 more days to double your donation and help us make our $20,000 match. We have raised almost $18,074 since May 5th. Help us reach our $20,000 goal that goes to our COVID-19 Dutchess Orange Community Strong Fund. We need your help now more than ever to help families impacted by COVID. Join Community Strong today!

There is a new financial incentive for Americans to give generously to qualifying charities, including United Way of the Dutchess-Orange Region and many of our community partners. The new universal tax break for charitable donations was included in the final $2 trillion COVID-19 stimulus package signed into law last week and will go into effect starting with the 2020 tax year. The measure grants taxpayers an above-the-line deduction for up to $300 in charitable donations given in 2020. For example, if you take the standard deduction and give $300 to charity, you will get a $300 tax break in addition to the standard deduction.
