AUGUST 26-30, 2024

Welcome to the latest edition of The Week That Was, the City of Big Bear Lake's weekly newsletter where we share brief updates about city projects, initiatives and events. A lot has happened around here this week. Here's the run down:
  • Our Public Works team has been busy sprucing up Boulder Bay Park this week. They abated weeds, placed fresh mulch in the planters, and with the assistance of Big Bear Trails, they trimmed trees and bushes so that visitors can enjoy unobstructed views of the bay!
  • We're making great progress on our two Capital Improvement Projects: Castle Rock Trailhead Parking Lot and Summit Blvd. Pavement Rehabilitation! Completion for both projects is anticipated by the end of October 2024. As part as the City’s safety program, traffic control will continue to be implemented in the surrounding areas during work hours, which are Monday-Friday 7AM-5PM. Click here to learn more.

Castle Rock Trailhead Parking Lot

Located on the southwest Corner of Big Bear Blvd. (SR-18) and Talbot Dr.

  • Grading has begun for the project site and will be ongoing.
  • Footings for the concrete retaining wall have been dug on the Big Bear Blvd. (SR-18) side.
  • Rebar is being placed for the footings and we anticipate that concrete will be poured by the end of the week.

Summit Blvd. Pavement Rehabilitation

Located along Summit Blvd. from Big Bear Blvd. (SR-18) to 125’ south of Switzerland Dr.

  • Over 1,400 feet of storm drainage and 4 new manholes have been installed.
  • Construction of the new concrete swale on the west side is underway.
  • The City Manager participated in the San Bernardino County Transportation Authority (SBCTA) Long Range Multimodal Transportation Plan (LRMTP) Stakeholder Working Group Meeting. The overall objective of the LRMTP is to ensure the safe and efficient management, operation, and development of a regional multimodal transportation system that, when linked with appropriate land use planning, will efficiently serve the mobility needs of San Bernardino County residents, businesses, and visitors, with robust connectivity to the regional system. Click here for more information.
  • On Monday, the City exhibited at the Moonridge Monday Street Fair, which was hosted by the Big Bear Chamber of Commerce. Planning and Building and Safety staff enjoyed speaking with residents, business owners and visitors about City projects and initiatives, including Beautify Big Bear Lake, special events, business licensing, and code compliance. Stop by our booth and say hello on Monday, September 9th from 4-8PM!
