AUGUST 12-16, 2024

Welcome to the latest edition of The Week That Was, the City of Big Bear Lake's weekly newsletter where we share brief updates about city projects, initiatives and events. A lot has happened around here this week. Here's the run down:
  • At its Regular Meeting on Wednesday, the City Council approved the acquisition of a new permitting software program called Accela (Item 2.1). This new program will significantly increase customer service, communication and turnaround to City issued permits. Such as, building and grading permits.

  • Also during the August 14th meeting, the City Council adopted the Measure I Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan and Expenditure Strategy for Fiscal Year 2024-25 Through Fiscal Year 2028-29 (Item 1.3). Measure I was a one-half of one percent sales tax adopted by San Bernardino County voters in 1989 to generate funding in support of roadway improvement and transportation projects throughout San Bernardino County. In 2004, voters again considered the measure and it was voted to be extended through 2040. Measure I funds support three (3) specific project focus areas: Regional/Arterial Streets Program, Local Streets Program, and an Elderly/Disabled Transit Program. Local agencies throughout the County, including the City of Big Bear Lake, receive an annual local return allocation of Measure I funds to support local street projects.

  • The City Council also awarded a contract to crack seal and slurry seal all of the following trails in Big Bear Lake: the Happy Hills Trail, the Knickerbocker Creek Trail, the Alpine Pedal Path Rathbun Creek Extension, two (2) phases of the Rathbun Creek Trail, and the Stanfield Marsh Outdoor Recreation and Education (SMORE) Trail Phase I (Item 1.4). This is a critical maintenance activity to protect the extensive investment that the City has made in the construction of trails over the recent years.
