APRIL 29 - MAY 3, 2024
Welcome to the latest edition of The Week That Was, the City of Big Bear Lake's weekly newsletter where we share brief updates about city projects, initiatives and events. A lot has happened around here this week. Here's the run down:
  • The City participated in the annual Bowling for The Zoo, hosted by Friends of The Big Bear Alpine Zoo. Our team, “The Gutterball Grizzlies”, featuring City Councilmembers Randy Putz and Rick Herrick, City Manager Erik Sund, Assistant City Manager Sean Sullivan, and Economic Development Manager Kelly Tinker, had a blast competing against other teams from local organizations to raise funds for this great cause! Since 1959, The Big Bear Alpine Zoo has rehabilitated injured and orphaned animals and educated the public about stewardship of wildlife and conservation of the unique ecosystems of the Big Bear Lake area. • Last week, Caltrans crews were in the City cleaning the sidewalks along Big Bear Boulevard, removing cinders and other debris from the winter season. Much of that material was blown or swept into the street, so this week Caltrans has been performing street sweeping all along the Boulevard.
  • The Regular Meeting of the Planning Commission scheduled for Wednesday, May 1st was cancelled. The next Planning Commission meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, May 15, 2024, at 1:15 p.m. at Hofert Hall. At this meeting, a public hearing will be held to consider the following Major Special Event Permits: Big Bear Chamber of Commerce's “Moonridge Mondays", Visit Big Bear's “Puptopia Festival 2024”, and Porsche Club of America's “Porsche Timeline Car Show”.
  • The City Manager and some City Councilmembers attended the 59th Annual Southern California Association of Governments (SCAG) Regional Conference and General Assembly, where a number of regional goals were discussed. The Assembly brings together local and regional leaders to share and learn from each other about the future of mobility, housing and communities, the environment, and the economy. SCAG provided an overview of the recently adopted Connect SoCal 2024 Regional Transportation Plan/Sustainable Communities Strategy. • The Big Bear Chamber of Commerce is hosting its inaugural Big Bear Restaurant Week, which will kick off on Sunday, May 5th, and run through Thursday, May 9th. Patrons will enjoy discounts, drink specials, and more during Big Bear Restaurant Week. Click here to learn more.
