What is the role of a Chaplain?

In Unity, the role of a Chaplain is to support the spiritual community: A Chaplain serves the ministry in pastoral care and acts as its arms to the congregation. The role of Chaplain is one of the best training's for anyone seeking spiritual growth. Due to our human conditioning, we want to fix things. However, a Chaplain is taught to listen lovingly without giving advice, to hold sacred space and to keep all things confidential.
A Chaplain prays for divine right action and outcome in all situations, creating sacred understanding and deepening of faith and oneness in God. A Chaplain states "what" and and allows God to express "how". What a wonderful opportunity to strengthen our belief that God knows what to do and how to do it.
First Unity's Chaplains are available for individual prayer after each Sunday service.

IF YOU'VE HIT a wall with talk therapy, maybe it's time to give no-talk therapy a try. Going quiet is said to soothe frazzled nerves and lower blood pressure, not to mention give you some time for reflection in a very noisy world. If you are seeking relaxation, balance and spiritual renewal come join our Silent Retreat guided by John DeRugeris, Allison Marie and Helen Dahlhauser. If you're ready to completely unplug and recharge, you might want to consider taking a temporary vow of silence on Saturday, July 27th.
People come for many different reasons - rest, sleep, spiritual insight, guidance, journaling, etc. Most certainly, each individual who leaves on Saturday is a different person than the one that arrived that morning.

Saturday Morning Brunch Bunch

On the last Saturday of June, First Unity hosted the third Saturday Morning Brunch Bunch. This event was inspired by neighborhood children that came into Friendship Hall looking for food. These children would usually receive breakfast and lunch at school, but there is no school on Saturday. Most of these neighborhood kids would go hungry over the weekend.
So, a group of individuals volunteered to form a committee to establish a Saturday food program. These individuals not only volunteered their time, but they also provided the food. The first two events were good lessons learned and the decision was made to commit to the last Saturday of the month from 9:00-11:00 am to host the Saturday Morning Brunch Bunch (SMBB).
On June 29th SMBB served food to six neighborhood children. The menu included cereal and milk, pancakes with butter and syrup, orange juice and other nutritious drinks. The kids expressed glee and excitement as we kept bringing out the pancakes and cereal.

If you know of any young people who might want to join us please spread the word and let them know about SMBB's next breakfast on July 27th from 9:00-11:00 am in Friendship Hall.

Introduction to Evolutionary Astrolgy

Dr. Imsara taught an introduction to this course at Wings Bookstore in May, and word-of-mouth created this next set of classes by popular demand. Those of us who attended those first four sessions could not stop praising and raving, so Dr. Imsara has created a course that serves as a review and extension of the introductory sessions. If you missed the sessions in May, this class has been designed to get you up to speed and take you beyond into a deeper understanding and application of Evolutionary Astrology.
