Library Closings

In observance of the upcoming holiday and in celebration of the historical significance of Christmas, we would like to inform you that the library will be closed on Monday, December 25th, 2023. Christmas, a widely celebrated occasion, holds roots in various traditions and historical events. It has evolved over centuries, intertwining customs from diverse cultures. The holiday has become a time for families and communities to come together, sharing joy, love, and goodwill. As we honor this festive occasion, please note that the library will resume its regular schedule on the following day, December 26th, 2023. We appreciate your understanding and wish you a wonderful and peaceful holiday season.

The Museum Pass program is accessible to Delaware Library cardholders who are adults (18 years and older).

Visit your local library to borrow a museum pass and enjoy a wonderful, cost-free visit to one of Delaware's captivating museums. Presently, our selection includes passes for Mt. Cuba, Brandywine Zoo, and Tyler Arboretum.

For passes to additional attractions, kindly verify their availability through the Museum Key.

It's important to be aware that each museum pass comes with its own set of admission regulations. Reserving a museum pass signifies the patron's commitment to adhering to the library's museum pass policy. Recipe of the Month: King Cake

King Cake is made around the world in celebration of the festival of Epiphany. Occurring at the end of the Christmas season, the name references the Biblical story of the visit of the Magi to the Christ Child. King cake is also associated with the celebrations of Mardi Gras and Carnival, prior to the Catholic fasting season of Lent. King cake parties are celebrated in Louisiana every week during Carnival season. The cake is traditionally made with a small plastic doll inside or underneath, to represent the infant Jesus; getting the doll in your slice is considered good luck. The king cake tradition was brought to the United States in the early 1700s by Spanish Basque settlers to the Gulf Coast. Today, king cakes are often brightly decorated with sugars or icings dyed the Mardi Gras colors of green, yellow, and purple.
