The 15th Annual Alfred Gross Memorial Scholars Lecture Weekend
Friday, June 7 to Sunday, June 9
All events will take place at Seaside Jewish Community and registration is required for each activity.
Jewish author, lecturer and poet Danny Siegel will be the keynote speaker of this three-day program. A recipient of the prestigious 1993 Covenant Award for Exceptional Jewish Educators, Mr. Siegel has spoken to more than 400 North American Jewish communities about tzedakah and Jewish values. He has published 28 books and has produced an anthology of 500 selections of Talmudic quotes about living the Jewish life well. It is entitled, “Where Heaven and Earth Touch.”
Friday, June 7 at 7:30 PM:
Mr. Siegel will lead an informal conversation entitled, “There’s No Such Thing as a Small Mitzvah.” Reception to follow.
Saturday, June 8 at 10:00 AM:
Shabbat Service will include selected poetry read by Mr. Siegel, and a presentation entitled “How to Choose the Mitzvahs that are the Very Best for You Personally.” Lunch will be sponsored by Suzanne Gross. Nonmembers may register beginning May 29, registration closes June 2.
Saturday, June 8 at 7:30 PM:
Havdalah Service
The evening will include a presentation by Mr. Siegel entitled, “What Can Bruce Springsteen, Steven Spielberg, David Copperfield, Ben & Jerry, and The Late Paul Newman and Liz Taylor Teach Us About Mitzvot That We Don’t Know? — How To Be a Mitzvah Hero.” Reception to follow.
Sunday, June 9 at 10:30 AM:
There will be a presentation by Mr. Siegel about “Little-known or discussed authentic Jewish Values for Ourselves, Our Families, and Our Communities;” and “The (Unknown) Famous Five-Minute Speech That Changed Thousands of Lives.” Reception to follow.
This annual weekend, begun in 2008, honoring Alfred Gross, one of Seaside’s founding members who believed in the importance of Jewish education.
