Last Sunday's Service

Lisa Tweardy Buckingham to the pulpit!

Lisa (Tweardy) Buckingham served as the youth leader here at Northmont from June 1997 – October 2004. She worked primarily with middle school and high school students with a focus on providing opportunities for students to worship God, study Scripture, build community, and offer service from a local to an international level.  Some of her favorite memories come from weekend retreats, summer mission trips, and the Summer’s Best Two Weeks summer camp she brought to the church.

Since leaving Northmont, Lisa has worked as the Director of Youth Ministries at Third Presbyterian Church in Uniontown, PA and as the Family Ministries Coordinator at Grace Church in Martins Ferry, OH.  Recently, she and her three amazing children – Olivia (age 14), James (age 13) and Connor (age 11) – relocated back to Uniontown, PA where she is currently working as a Family Resource Specialist with Head Start/Early Head Start of Fayette County.

Lisa is thrilled to participate in worship on Thanks Offering Sunday, and looks forward to worshiping together with her Northmont family.

The Return of Northmont Deacon’s  Angel Tree

After several years of absence during Covid, Northmont people will once again be able to help give a proper Christmas to those less fortunate than we.  The Angel Tree will be set up in the foyer of the main entrance off the parking lot. Simply choose a gift tag or tags from the tree, then return your unwrapped gift(s)  between November 5 and December 3. Gift cards can be placed in a container in the church office; other, unwrapped, items can be placed in the designated box in the church library.

Last year’s holiday toy drive for North Hills Community Outreach provided new toys, games, and other gifts to 821 children.  Northmont has always been a generous church. May our efforts be fruitful once again this year to help families in need in our community.

The next AMOS is on Wednesday Nov 6 and 6 pm. This week we will have a potluck so please bring a dish to share. We can’t wait to join in food and fellowship with you.

Thank Offering Service

A tradition at Northmont is for the Presbyterian Women to organize the Thank Offering Service.

The theme of this year’s Thank Offering is Colossians 3:14-15 — Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds everything together in perfect harmony.  And let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, to which indeed you were called in the one body. And be thankful.

Sunday, November 12, the speaker will be one of our former Youth Directors, Lisa Tweardy Buckingham.  Lisa currently works with Head Start doing home visits in the Uniontown area with families who have very young children.

SEVEN life-changing ministries for 2023 are funded by our Thank Offering Giving – 1 is international and 6 are in the United States.  More than 40 percent of the projects funded are health ministries such as the project in Zambia, Africa which will provide rural residents with access to a health-care facility closer to their homes.

Would you please consider giving to help those in need here and throughout the world.

PW's CHRISTMAS LUNCHEON

Presbyterian Women’s Christmas Luncheon is back and will be held on December 8, 2023 in Polley Fellowship Hall beginning at  11:30 a.m., with lunch at 12:00 p.m.  Tickets for the catered luncheon are $18.00, and will be sold before and after church on November 19 and 26 or by contacting Sarah Jane Beorn, 412-952-0662.  Come and enjoy “Here We Go A-Caroling.”

SEWING SISTER UPDATE

We have been busy Friday mornings working on sewing machines, getting them in working order.. There are machines humming working on skirts for girls These skirts are matched with colorful t-shirts and underwear and sent off to eager needy girls in Africa. We know how they are appreciated by the positive responses we receive in return. This is a happy time for us, working to help others!

THANK YOU

Election day soup sale was a great success. Thank you to all who donated soup and your time.

Hymn of the Month

November’s hymn of the month is “Jesus Come With Clouds Descending.” Due to the special Thank Offering service on Sunday, I will introduce the hymn next Sunday and in the next edition of the Piper.
