One small act can make a difference in the life of a Veteran or Service Member in crisis.
As we observe National Suicide Prevention Month this September, it is crucial for us to remember this, especially within the military community. Veterans face a significantly higher risk of suicide, with rates 57% higher than the national average, according to the VA.
Illinois Joining Forces (IJF) is dedicated to preventing suicide among Illinois Veterans and Service Members. With the generous support of the VA’s Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP), IJF offers vital peer support, case management, education, and outreach efforts. Our initiatives, including the Care Coordination Center (CCC), Regional Summits, and Resource Fairs, are designed to ensure Veterans are aware of and have access to the support and resources they need. We are committed to showing Veterans that they are not alone and that help is readily available.
Building strong connections within the Veteran community and with our partners is crucial for enhancing Veteran well-being. We are pleased to highlight two recent events that have significantly contributed to strengthening our Veteran network.
We are excited to share updates on how Illinois Joining Forces (IJF) is connecting Veterans with vital resources and offer actionable steps to support Veterans or Service Members in need of assistance.
I encourage you to explore all the ways, whether big or small, that you can contribute to the well-being of Service Members and Veterans. Your support is invaluable. Thank you to everyone who shares our dedication to enhancing the lives of the Illinois Service Members, Veterans, and their families (SMVF) community.
Warm regards,
Brenda Osuch
