Onondaga County Opens Largest Pickle Ball Complex in Upstate New York

County Executive Ryan McMahon along with Onondaga County Parks and Recreation Commissioner Brian Kelley and several County Legislators officially opened the largest pickleball complex in Upstate New York! The complex includes 12 courts that can hold three pickleball groups of up to four people and is open from 6am to Dusk. The sport which has been sweeping the nation is a combination of tennis, ping pong and badminton. It can be played as singles or doubles using a paddle and plastic ball. Players volley the ball back and forth over the net until someone misses.

"A couple of years ago we were pitched the idea by CNY pickleball ambassadors Jon Cooley and Brook Bregman, to bring the sport to our parks system," County Executive Ryan McMahon said. "We were informed how big pickleball was getting. Judging by this unbelievable turnout, I would say they were right." The County Executive also discussed additional plans for the complex, which include: benches, new landscaping, shaded structures and other amenities to further enhance the experience for all players.

County Executive Announces Second Round of Senior Center Grant Awardees

County Executive Ryan McMahon had the pleasure of attending the Manlius Senior Activity Center's annual luncheon at the village center auditorium. More importantly, the County Executive announced the second round of Senior Center Grant recipients. The Manlius and Fayetteville senior centers will each receive $100,000 from Onondaga County for capital improvements.

Area senior centers are a key component in the lives of many Onondaga County seniors. These centers offer inclusive and diverse programming designed to promote physical and emotional wellness. They also function as an important tool in the battle to combat isolation by allowing friends to meet, do things together and even to share a meal.

"These are the backbones of these local communities, we need to keep our seniors active, and continue to give back," the County Executive said. "Our senior citizens provided the foundation for much of the successes we enjoy today, and this is a small way to say thank you for all their contributions to our community."
