Meet Our Guest

Photo of Todd Lucero

Todd Lucero, a former guest of REACH Home, arrived during the winter of 2018-2019.

Now Todd is living in a supportive housing program in the city, which REACH helped him to secure. He’s thrilled with his new accommodation! He pays 30% of his income for his place and has the benefit of an on-site case manager. Recently, he adopted a very friendly rescue dog named Butter Boy, who is often the reason for Todd’s smile.

Project Haven News

The REACH/Project Haven shelter team has received many wonderful donations of goods and services from the community.

We'd like to thank MVP Health Care for their day of service. They volunteered at Project Haven doing needed yard work, sorting in the clothing room, categorizing supplies, and cleaning.

We’d also like to extend our gratitude to Nazareth University for 110 mattresses.

Thank you, Xerox, for two pallets' worth of vinyl gloves.

We thank the West Webster Fire Department for a pallet of hand sanitizer.

Last, but certainly not least, a huge thank you to each of you who have so generously donated.

If you would like to help us provide for our 80 guests, please visit our list of shelter needs.

Edgerton Meadows Updates

This month we worked with the City on multiple zoning variances and attended Edgerton Neighborhood Association meetings to discuss the project and answer the neighbors’ questions.

We thought you might want to check out Housing First Village in Bozeman, MT. They provided us with inspiration and guidance as we worked to create the best possible solution to chronic homelessness.

Advocacy Notes

Our advocacy team adopted a new mission statement as of June 7, 2023:

Our mission is to contribute to the public dialogue on the current housing crisis by focusing on housing as a human right and presenting evidence that market-driven housing has not and will not meet the needs of many living on very low incomes and/or individuals facing substance abuse, behavioral, or mental challenges.

'Poverty, By America' Book Cover Image

We are reading Matthew Desmond’s "Poverty, By America," in order to better understand the systemic issues that have brought us to the current housing crisis. This book is available at Monroe County libraries.

Advocacy met on June 21st to discuss Desmond’s book and talk about the systemic changes we face if there is to be a constructive move toward more justice in housing.

We're always looking for recommendations for our next book!

Thank you to our readers!
