SUMMER BEAR SMARTS

We often think we are doing our part to minimize bear-human conflict just by securing our trash. But there are a few other simple things to remember during summer months that can keep your family and our bear population safe:

  • Clean up after eating outdoors, including the grill and eating surfaces
  • Feed pets indoors
  • Hike in groups of 3 or more and make noise to avoid a surprise encounter
  • Keep bear-accessible doors and windows closed, especially while cooking

There are more easy ways you can help reduce negative human impacts on our bear population and keep bears out of your spaces. Check out this fun and quick new video from Bear Smart Durango, and report local bear activity by calling or texting (970) 247-BEAR.

FREE TO EV

The Durango Public Library recently installed four new EV charging stations on-site at 1900 East Third Avenue. To celebrate, the City is offering FREE charging at the new spots for the entire month of July. The new charging spaces are part of the City’s adopted Electric Vehicle Readiness plan, which also includes plans to expand EV charging at the Transit Center by the end of 2024. HOT PARKING TIPS

Ditch the meter feeding frenzy with $5 All Day Parking at the Transit Center during the work week! All the parking pros know to find a City lot after 5 pm and on weekends for FREE off-street parking. Don’t forget that all meters are FREE after 6 pm during the work week and FREE all day on weekends. Click here for a cheat sheet detailing how to park without the headaches in Downtown Durango.

BREWFEST BUSINESS

We are six weeks aways from the biggest and best beer tasting festival in the Four Corners! Over 40 breweries will be on-site in Buckley Park in Downtown Durango for the 25th Annual San Juan Brewfest. With two days to partake, three live bands, and an average of $50,000 raised each year for our local United Way of Southwest Colorado, Brewfest always delivers the good times. Thank you to our 2025 presenting sponsor Bank of the San Juans. Make sure to get your tickets for your preferred day at SanJuanBrewfest.com
