This evening at approximately 6:14 p.m., Elgin police and fire departments responded to the area of Route 20 and McLean Boulevard for a report of a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle in traffic.

The preliminary crash investigation revealed a vehicle traveling eastbound on Route 20 struck the pedestrian, who was running southbound across the lanes of traffic west of McLean Boulevard. The pedestrian, a 12-year-old male Elgin resident, was transported to Presence St. Joseph Hospital where he was pronounced deceased. The driver of the vehicle was not injured.
