CAEP was in Edmonton May 10 at the Legislature advocating for economic development in the region. Led by CAEP Chair James Carpenter, and Vice-Chair Chief Leonard StandingontheRoad and Executive Director, Kimberley Worthington, we met with Labour and Immigration Minister Kaycee Madu, Minister of Infrastructure Prasad Panda, and MLA Richard Godried (Calgary-Fish Creek) who is the current President of Pacific NorthWest Economic Region (PNWER) which is having its 2022 Annual Summit in Calgary July 24-28 2022. Later we had the privilege of attending session live in the gallery and being introduced in the House by Speaker and former CAEP Board member, Nathan Cooper MLA for Olds-Didsbury-Three HIlls. It was a great way to kick off the week!
“I would like to extend my deep appreciation and thanks for all of the support our economic developers provide in helping Alberta businesses and communities succeed and thrive.”  ~ Minister of Jobs, Economy and Innovation Doug Schweitzer
What is Economic Development?
Economic development is the intentional practice of improving a community’s economic well-being and quality of life. It includes a broad-range of activities to attract, create, and retain jobs, and to foster a resilient, pro-growth tax base and an inclusive economy.

The practice of economic development comprises of a collaborative effort involving industry, government and myriad community stakeholders. Download the "What is Economic Development Brochure" to provide a basic overview on economic development, EDOs, and what economic developers do for your community.

Why Invest in Economic Development in Good Times?- An excellent resource when the value of economic development programs is called into question. This brochure provides the rationale of why investing in economic development is good for a community.

CAEP promotes Central Alberta in India
CAEP Chair and businessman James Carpenter will be travelling to India alongside Canada Immigration and Visa Services to promote CAEP member communities and the Alberta Advantage Immigration Program - Rural Entrepreneur Stream. These efforts fall within CAEPs Business Retention and Attraction portfolio. We are very excited to be meeting with 100s of potential global investors, many of whom are ambitiously pursuing relocation to rural Alberta through this stream. The short video above with Alberta Minister Madu is being used as a short introduction by CIVS.
CAEP Municipalities Tour Enhance Energy & Clive
The City of Red Deer Council and CAEP vice chair Chief Leonard StandingontheRoad toured the Enhance Energy site in Lacombe County where they learned all about carbon capture utilization and sequestration.

CAEP board members and Red Deer City Council members also toured the Village of Clive on behalf of Mayor Henri by Lacombe County Councillor Brenda Knight. Clive is not only home to Roosters Roadhouse, where the team enjoyed lunch, but also has an amazing K-9 school, a seed cleaning plant, and minor sports like baseball and hockey. If you're touring central Alberta, it's a must see.

Thanks to the City of Red Deer for providing a bus so CAEP's board and the Red Deer Council could network, and share ideas about regional economic development and collaboration. Another super benefit of being a CAEP member!
