⚖️ Advocacy Matters to You

All Advocacy

The Federal Railroad Administration announced the opening of applications for $153 million in discretionary grant funding focused on restoring former Amtrak services and enhancing existing Amtrak services.

ESPA has been advocating for NYS DOT to apply for these funds to assist in the capital and operating cost of the following enhancement proposals:

  • Reopening the food commissary facility in Rensselaer and reestablish food and beverage service on all Hudson Valley Amtrak trains
  • Add a baggage car on the domestic portion of the Maple Leaf, first westbound train out of Penn/Moynihan each morning to Niagara Falls to carry bicycles, luggage and hockey sticks
  • Identifying the capital improvements necessary in Saratoga Springs to bring the two additional round-trip trains promised by Spring, 2026 in the State's Service Development Plan

💡 Do you have an idea on how NYS could use this grant? Share your idea and the NYSTIA Advocacy Committee will review the ideas and draft a call for action.

Thank you to NYSTIA Advocacy Committee Steve Strauss, Executive Director of the Empire State Passengers Association, for sharing this information!
