A MESSAGE FROM CAMPUS DIRECTOR, ANDREW KATZ

It all starts again next week! The JCC will be filled with the sounds of our kids laughing, playing, swimming and having a great time as camp starts up here at the JCC! Many of you know that the JCC’s summer camp holds a very special place in my heart as I got started in my JCC career as a camp counselor. To me, there is nothing better than spending the summer at the JCC, trying new things, making friends, and having a great time. Let’s get started!

Many thanks to our amazing camp director, Rachel Csakany, for all of her hard work putting together a great team for camp this summer and developing some really fun and creative programs for our campers.

  • With camp starting up next week, there will be new traffic patterns and more kids at the JCC during drop-off and pick-up time. Please allow for a little extra time in the mornings and afternoons and – most importantly – please be extra cautious as there will be lots of kids in the building and outside. The busiest pick-up time will be from 3:40 pm. - 4:20 pm. and you may find that the parking lot is very difficult to navigate at that time. Also, please note that access from Knolls Road is exit only between 8:40 am - 9:00 am & 3:40 pm - 4:20 pm.

  • Mazel Tov and congratulations to the class of 2024! We hope that everyone has a great summer as they move onto new schools and adventures in the fall. My own son had his moving-up ceremony last Friday and I know that these transitional moments are exciting for all of us!

  • With graduations, come graduation parties! If you have deposit bottles and cans, save them and bring them to the JCC for recycling. There is a shed in the back where you can leave them. We have recycled more than 35,000 bottles and cans so far this year…a record pace! The proceeds from the recycling go to improving your JCC so please pitch in!

  • Good luck to the Blue Wave Swim Team as they have their first home meet next Tuesday, July 2. They have been practicing hard for the last four weeks and are ready to compete. Please note that the outdoor pool will be closing at 4 p.m. on Tuesday for the meet. Thank you to the team’s head coach, Caroline Ash, and all of our assistant coaches and supporters, especially the Blue Wave Parent Board.

  • You can support the Blue Wave Swim Team by having dinner at Panera on Friday, July 12 from 4:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. Check out the flyer below and make sure you bring it with you to the restaurant so that the team gets credit. The JCC/Blue Wave will receive 25% of the net sales during the fundraiser. Can’t make it to the restaurant? You can order take-out online during those hours and use the promo code FUND4U and we will get the credit!

Finally, thank you to our members who attended last week’s annual meeting. I hope you all got a good idea of all of the great things happening here at your JCC. I want to make a special note to thank Gordon Zuckerman who completed two years as president of our Board of Directors last week. Gordon has been a great leader for the JCC, providing us with excellent advice and direction as we worked to recover from the pandemic. We all owe Gordon a huge thank you for all he has done for the JCC and in our community.

I also want to welcome Amy Landauer-Ruder as our new board president. I’m excited to work with Amy as she works to lead us to even greater heights. I have had the great pleasure working with her on the playground and splash pad project and I know she will be a tremendous leader for the JCC.

Thanks to all of our members who volunteer to serve on the board of directors or volunteer to lead or serve on different committees. If you’d like to get involved, please let me know.

I hope to see you at the JCC this weekend and next week for CAMP!!

Best,

Andy
