October 2019
Greetings!
I am excited to share a bit of Louisiana, my home state, with those attending the Healthcare Design Expo in New Orleans. I grew up thinking life in the deep south was no different than anywhere else in the U.S.; I now understand Louisiana is like no place else. Southern hospitality, creole food, zydeco, jazz and lagniappe, (a little something extra) only begin to describe the New Orleans experience that makes this city a definite bucket list destination.

"Laissez les bon temps rouler", or "let the good times roll" (pronounced "Lay-say le bon tom roo-lay") is an iconic Cajun French phrase that has echoed through "The Big Easy" for as long as I can remember. It is a mindset that I carry with me; to live life to the fullest and be as present as possible with the people around me, appreciating the gifts that each day brings.

While technology has brought the world to our fingertips, it ironically entices us to disconnect from the people standing in front of us. Though talking through screens may be convenient at times, we must remember how much more meaningful the moments are that we can collectively share.

I am grateful to be a part of a collaborative community of people far and wide, all striving to infuse evidence-based art and design into the evolution of the healthcare patient experience. I encourage each attendee to put their devices away, explore New Orleans, engage a new connection, and contribute to the conversation – and of course, let the good times roll. Be the lagniappe!

Ya’ll enjoy!
Sincerely,

In 2019, Mount Carmel Health System (MCHS) saw both the opening of the new Mount Carmel Grove City hospital and renovations and additions to Mount Carmel East. The artistic development throughout these facilities used purposeful l arge-scale art based in contemporary, abstract nature themes to help guide visitors through public areas while also visualizing patient/staff centricity and faith-based services.

Distinctive Art Source recently attended The Center for Health Design’s annual Pebble-in-Practice Workshop on Pediatric, Behavioral Health and Aging Mind design in Baltimore, Maryland. The two-day workshop was attended by DAS Art Consultant, Abby Lenon, and Project Manager, Aubrey Thorp.

It was an invaluable experience to learn more about healthcare design from the many esteemed speakers and presenters. We loved the convenience of attending regional CHD workshops so close to home and, as always, it was a great two days of learning, sharing, seeing old friends and making new ones!

We were excited to see Dayton Children’s Hospital being celebrated in the August 2019 issue of  Healthcare Design Magazine !

Take a look at the Dayton Children's Hospital project sheet to see how DAS helped bring this project to life.
DAS revisited the graduate interior design students at Marymount University!

We spent our time discussing the power of multidisciplinary design teams in creating truly integrated visual experiences.

See you at Healthcare Design!
Distinctive Art Source is looking forward to attending the Healthcare Design Expo and Conference! If you will be there, please stop by our booth to say hello.
