When I started Distinctive Art Source nearly 14 years ago as an art consultant I often worked alone with clients. What I quickly discovered was that the healthcare art industry is so much more impactful when we take a team approach. One of the greatest joys in the work we do at DAS is the opportunity to partner with experts in so many other fields.

Just as we bring the art expertise to the table, each member of the team brings a different strength and skillset. Together we are able to achieve excellence - beyond the limitations of our individual capabilities. And the more we work alongside our extraordinary clients, architects, interior designers, artists and way finding experts, the more they challenge us to do our very best work. Being surrounded by professional excellence is the motivation we all need to strive for perfection.

While I am most certainly proud of the work we do at DAS, I'm even more grateful for the people who make our work possible. They inspire us to deliver innovation and creativity on each and every project. Thank you for being a part of our team at Distinctive Art Source - we appreciate all that you bring to us every day.

Sincerely,

And because we work 100% in healthcare, Distinctive Art Source has been able to partner with some of the most forward thinking healthcare professionals and highly respected architecture and design firms in the industry to deliver innovative art programs that contribute to positive patient experiences and leave a lasting impression on the community.

Along the way in creating a cohesive visual art program that is beneficial for the entire community, Distinctive Art Source explores local talent, builds on new relationships and helps hospitals conceptualize, visualize, and realize the goals of their program.

Patient-Based Artwork Supports Specific Programs at Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters

Think all children's hospital artwork is the same? Think again. At Children's Hospital of The King's Daughters (CHKD) in Virginia Beach, VA, the artwork is thoughtfully selected to support the therapy program or activity in each area of the facility. The stand-alone orthopedic, urgent care and sports medicine clinic serves patients in pulmonology, orthopedic surgery, physical therapy, sports medicine and wellness education.

Vibrant photography is displayed throughout the building with imagery that reinforces the goals of each department. For example, the pulmonary therapy area features images of children blowing bubbles, dandellions, horns, golf balls and more to mimic the clinical exercises that build lung capacity. Art in the "Healthy You" clinic depicts active children engaged in healthy habits to support the goals of instilling a healthy body image and developing healthy lifestyle habits. The sports enhancement program displays images of competitive athletes to inspire the youth who are working to advance their performance. And throughout the building, images of healthy, active children support the overall theme of wellness.

CHD Webinar: How Collaboration Leads to Integrated Healthcare Art Programs

Distinctive Art Source was pleased to present a webinar for The Center for Health Design entitled "How Collaboration Leads to Integrated Healthcare Art Programs" on August 24. Multi-disciplined collaboration is the key to outstanding healthcare art programs that meet individual facility goals and create integrated visual experiences. In fact, the most successful projects are those in which the lines between disciplines become blurred, making it impossible to know where the architect's / designer's job ended and the art consultant's and way finding team's jobs began. Ideally, owners, architects, designers, art consultants, way finding experts and others work together in a collaborative process to create a seamless experience for patients and visitors. This webinar provided a roadmap for establishing a collaborative process that results in an effective and valued art program.

Local Artists Featured in Owensboro Health Regional Hospital Art Program

We continue to be inspired and impressed by the talent of local community artists no matter where we are working. DAS especially enjoyed discovering the remarkable artistic talent in Owensboro, KY, while working with Owensboro Health Regional Hospital. Owensboro, a multi-faith based community, is home to many talented local artists who were interested in having their work become a part of the new hospital's art program. DAS partnered with these artists and a local museum to continue, through the use of local art, the design emphasis on the importance of the land and the use of natural local materials to create a warm welcoming healing environment for a diverse population. Learn more about the art program at Owensboro here.
