Dear Artisans,

Almost every Willamette Valley winemaker had to forfeit their 2020 vintage from the devastating fires.

Then, they were given what's likely the best harvest in Oregon's history in 2021.

We love witnessing the proverbial Phoenix rising from the ashes play out in America's wine history, like Napa's 2012-2013 after 2011!

We visited Elk Cove winery in January and tasted their latest releases. They are perennially always excellent, but WOW... their world-class Pinot Gris and Single-Vineyard Pinot are stratospherically elevated!

Cheers,

—James Tran

"Richly complex, this is not a simple sipping Pinot Gris. The aromatics are floral and fruit-centred, with plenty of jasmine, ripe pear and toasted almond. The palate is surprisingly rich and complex, with lanolin, beeswax and sweet stone fruit flavours. Textured and rich with candied ginger, honeyed pear and apricot to finish. This is a lot of vinous complexity for less than $20."

91 Points - Wine Spectator:

A lovely, delicate white, this blooms with fresh apricot blossom, nectarine and honeysuckle accents while gliding along the crisp finish.

91 Points - Wine & Spirits:

"Leading with a dramatically wheaty, nutty lees note, this is fresh and lifted on the palate. A crisp apple tang to its youthful flavors makes it lively and broad, for cress and poached whitefish."

Richmond Bottle Side

94 Points - Wine Spectator:

"A compelling Pinot, richly refined and expressive, with polished raspberry and cherry flavors and hints of forest floor and spiced cinnamon. Concludes with supple tannins. Drink now through 2031. 1,140 cases made.” -TF (4/26/23)

94 Points - Robert Parker WA:

"The 2021 Pinot Noir Mount Richmond has a medium ruby-purple color and is scented of black cherry and plum, tobacco leaves, smoked meats and orange peel. The medium-bodied palate is silky and refreshing, with generous, perfumed fruit and spicy accents driving the long finish. Drink 2023-2033." -Erin Brooks (5/18/23)

94 Points - Jeb Dunnuck:

"Pouring a nearly opaque ruby-red, the 2021 Pinot Noir Mount Richmond is darker and more introspective, with brooding notes of blackberry fruit, toasted baking spices, licorice, and scorched earth. Structured, full-bodied, and opulent, it takes on ripe tannins, white pepper spice, and ripe meaty fruit through the finish, with lingering notes of incense. This age-worthy red will need time to soften and open up. Drink 2025-2035."
