Dear Friends,

Thanks again to Wendy Gonzalez, who spoke so movingly last week about the power to forgive. Combining her very personal story about her father with her expertise as a physician, she alerted us to the spiritual and physical dangers of withholding forgiveness.

This Sunday, I’ll be continuing my series from Conscious Leadership, as we get to number Commitment 13 out of 15. We have just a few more to go!

This week’s topic raises a challenge: making a commitment to seeing everyone in your life as an ally. It reads: “I commit to seeing all people and circumstances as allies perfectly suited to help me learn the most important things for my growth.

How can the horrible, terrible, and dishonest people in our lives and the world be our allies? We will explore this complicated concept and see if you agree or disagree. I look forward to your feedback on the discussion.

Honoring Our Dads and Father Figures

Last week we celebrated Father's Day. One of the great blessings for me from the COVID crisis is moving our service online, so that my Dad can join. He has been my spiritual advisor growing up, so it is such a joy for me to have him in church each week.

Join Me This Sunday in Person

I will be in the sanctuary on Sunday. Let me know if you'd like to meet for dinner afterward.

I look forward to seeing you this Sunday,

Readings for the Coming Sunday

Matthew 5:43-48 - New International Version

Love for Enemies

43 “You have heard that it was said, ‘Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.’ 44 But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, 45 that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. 46 If you love those who love you, what reward will you get?

John 13:27

As soon as Judas took the bread, Satan entered into him. So Jesus told him, “What you are about to do, do quickly.”

Swedenborg Insight

Secrets of Heaven §1079:2

Those who lack all kindness . . . want to examine and judge everyone and crave nothing more than to find evil, constantly bent as they are on condemning, punishing, and torturing others. On the other hand, those guided by kindness hardly even notice evil in another person but pay attention instead to everything good and true in that person. When they do find anything bad or false, they put a good interpretation on it. This is a characteristic of all angels—one they acquire from the Lord, who bends everything bad toward good.

Happy Birthday to Sheri Smith!

Join us in wishing a happy birthday to our beloved community member and spiritual entrepreneur Sheri Smith! Sheri celebrated her birthday on June 18th.

Sheri, - we wish you and your family love, health, happiness, and all the things that bring you joy!

Check out the photo (see above) of Sheri on her special day with her granddaughter Penny.

Recognizing Annabel Park and Jimmy Cox

Your copy should address 3 key questions: Who am I writing for (audience)? Why should they care (benefit)? What do I want them to do (call-to-action)?

Create a great offer by adding words like "free," "personalized," "complimentary," or "customized." A sense of urgency often helps readers take action, so consider inserting phrases like "for a limited time only" or "only 7 remaining!"

Save the Date: Compline Service

On Tuesday, July 16th, from 6:00 - 6:20 PM, Rev. Rich Tafel and Roxanne Sperry will host an online communion and meditation service. This traditional service, Compline, will incorporate scripture readings, meditation time, and communion. There is no sermon or discussion.

You will use the same Zoom link as we do on Sunday. All are welcome.

From the Desk of Veterinary Chaplain

The last couple of weeks Roxanne Sperry has been sharing updates about a foal that was born not too far from her home in Canada. We included photos for all to see above.

"Learning about the world is exciting and uses a lot of energy; sweet dreams little filly," says Roxanne.

More Snapshots from the Fashion Show at CHC

In previous newsletters we shared a selection of photos from a recent fashion show, hosted at Church of the Holy City. This event showcased a captivating blend of style and talent in our local community.

Check out more colorful snapshots that Jimmy Cox was able to capture for us, displayed above.

Coming This Summer: Community Chest

Starting in July, we invite anyone in the church who has a specific need to make a request to the congregation.

It can be a request for prayer, advice, financial or in-kind support. It can be any need that you think community members could help you with. We will feature your request for an entire month. Those who can help will be asked to respond to the person asking for help directly through email. We'll feature a new request every month.

This is one way our community can begin to respond to each other's needs.
