John Hennessey at St. David’s April 7

John Hennessy, our Diocesan Director of Public Advocacy, will be here on April 7 joining us for our 10:30 worship service and coffee hour. At noon John will answer the question What does social injustice look like?, from our baptismal covenant perspective, to put feet on it and to describe what it looks like in our Diocese, our community and Maine. Come with your questions, hear about ways you can make a difference in our society and to learn about St. David’s Social Justice Council. Questions? Contact Roy Smoot at rsmoot0427@gmail.com.

Tobacco Awareness Group Begins Monday, April 8

Are you or a loved one thinking about making a healthy change and stopping your tobacco use? Help is available with the Tobacco Awareness Group (TAG). This in-person group is free, confidential, and supportive. Whether you are just thinking about stopping or are ready to stop, TAG can provide accurate information, encouragement, and resources to assist you in becoming tobacco free. The only requirement for membership in TAG is the desire to stop using tobacco or vape products and live a healthy, nicotine-free life. TAG is open to the community and members can join or leave at any time. TAG is a safe, non-confrontational place to think, learn, engage in conversation, and share ideas with others who are facing the same challenges. Beginning on April 8, 2024, TAG will meet weekly on Mondays from 6 – 7:30PM. If you have any questions or would like more information, please contact Ed Perka at edward.perka@yahoo.com.

Edward J. Perka, Jr. is an Addictions Therapist with over 30 years of experience in the field. Ed currently holds the National Certification in Nicotine and Tobacco Treatment (NCNTT). Ed has been providing education and training on tobacco treatment to healthcare providers, behavioral health providers, and educational institutions for the past 16 years.

Earth Day Art Contest for Kids!

The Earth Keeping team is inviting children and youth to enter art of their own creation as we look ahead to Earth Sunday on April 21st. The guidelines are:

+ children through 4th grade - draw or paint a picture of an interesting animal you see in your neighborhood (mammal, fish, bird, insect), or write a poem about this animal

+ 5th grade through high school - write an essay or poem from the point of view of an animal (mammal, fish, bird, insect) or plant (tree, flower, weed, etc.) that describes how you imagine what it's like to be part of God's creation in this time of climate change (for example, a lobster experiencing warming waters, a tick enjoying warmer winters). The deadline to submit your entries is Sunday April 14th. There is a box in the hall near the office where entries can be placed. Please make sure your name is on your entry.
