Join the CAM Governance Committee

The CAM Governance Committee, which is charged with providing oversight to the coordinated entry system, is still recruiting members for Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH), Transitional Housing (TH), Domestic Violence (DV) and Community At Large representatives. If you are a general member and interested, check out the guiding document for more details about the CAM GC and complete this interest form by 11:59pm on June 4th.

HUD CoC Competition Update

As the Collaborative Applicant for the Detroit Continuum of Care (CoC), the Homeless Action Network of Detroit (HAND) manages the decision-making and application process for the FY2024 HUD Continuum of Care Homeless Assistance Funding application.

May 16th, HAND held a webinar for the FY 2024 Competition for agencies submitting renewal applications for current projects. In the webinar, participants were guided through the Renewal Application process for FY 2024. Watch the webinar recording on HAND's YouTube channel.

  • NEW bonus point opportunity!
  • Change to appeals process creating a more streamlined process.
  • Projects ranked according to the CoC Project Priority Ranking Policies (policies going to CoC Board at July 1st CoC board meeting).
  • Projects must earn at least 70% of the points possible for their project type in order to be submitted to HUD for funding.

Help Ensure Fair Tenant Screening Practices

Submit a Public Comment to Ensure Fair Screening Practices for Tenants with Conviction Histories

HUD has released a proposal to update guidance to landlords of HUD-assisted properties to help eliminate unnecessary barriers that too often prevent tenants with conviction or arrest records from accessing stable, affordable homes. HUD’s proposed rule is a critical first step towards housing justice and racial equity. The window for comment submissions closes June 10th.

HUD Announces $30 Billion Investment to Keep American Families Housed

Since last year, the HCV program saw a $2 billion increase in funding to help maintain housing vouchers for families across the country. Since 2022, this budget allocation has grown nearly 20% (over $4 billion), allowing the value of a Housing Choice Voucher to keep pace with rising rental costs, and helping to make sure that voucher holders can continue to access neighborhoods of opportunity. This announcement is a continuation of the Biden-Harris Administration’s efforts to increase the housing supply across the country for those who are most in need.

Handlebars for the Homeless

August 25

Handlebars for the Homeless (H4H) is back again for 2024. NSO’s H4H guided bicycle tour will highlight some of Detroit’s hidden treasures. Riders will be able to see neighborhoods that are being refreshed and revitalized. They will tour Neighborhoods where some of the state and even country’s hottest restaurants are located. The Supreme Court's Impact on Survivors

May 28 | 2pm

The webinar delves into crucial Supreme Court cases with far-reaching implications. This summer, the Court will decide on the cases U.S. v. Rahimi, FDA v. Alliance for Hippocratic Medicine, Moyle v. United States & Idaho v. United States, and City of Grants Pass v. Johnson. These decisions will shape whether domestic abusers can access firearms while under protection orders, access to abortion medication, hospital obligations regarding emergency abortions, and the legality of making homelessness a crime when shelters are unavailable.

Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR)

Training for Suicide Prevention

May 28 | 4:00pm - 5:00pm

This Question, Persuade, and Refer (QPR) Gatekeeper Training for Suicide Prevention session is provided by a Hope Network certified QPR trainer and co-hosted with The Mental Health Association in Michigan. Gatekeepers can include anyone who is strategically positioned to recognize and refer someone at risk of suicide (e.g., parents, friends, neighbors, teachers, coaches, caseworkers, police officers).


The process follows three steps:

  1. Question the individual's desire or intent regarding suicide
  2. Persuade the person to seek and accept help, and
  3. Refer the person to appropriate resources


Participant’s device must have a functioning camera, microphone and speakers; all three must be on during the entire presentation.

2024 Detroit Advocacy Boot Camp

It is critical every person recognizes their power and makes their voice heard. Leverage your power and join MLPP for their Advocacy Bootcamp On the Road, held in-person on Thursday, July 11, 2024 in Detroit, Michigan!


Build upon your knowledge and skills to strengthen your advocacy tool-belt, network with other change makers in your area, and strategize on ways you can continue to make Michigan a more equitable place for all to thrive! To ensure participants can have the opportunity to continue their growth in advocacy, MLPP will be offering their advocacy boot camp free of charge. As such, they will only be offering up to 50 slots. Applications are due by June 7th.

QAP & LIHTC SUMMIT

July 30

Please join CEDAM, MSHDA, equity investors, and developers for a day-long training and discussion about MSHDA’s LIHTC program, application expectations through the Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP), the status of the equity and other markets, as well as what equity investors expect to see prior to funding a project.


This training is geared toward emerging and experienced developers who have utilized Low Income Housing Tax Credits before and plan to apply for LIHTC in the upcoming funding round.

Registration will open late spring / early summer. Location will be at Lansing Community College.
