Shelter Prioritization Update

What to expect?

If you are experiencing a housing crisis and are in need of somewhere safe to stay, you can get assistance by contacting CAM.


What is changing?

Moving forward, only households on the “need shelter list” will be considered for a shelter referral. As shelter space becomes available, CAM will refer households based on immediate safety concerns and risks.


CAM has opened in-person Access Point services for people experiencing homelessness. There are 4 ways to Access CAM services. Call CAM at (313) 686-4558 or going to one of the following Access Points for in-person assessments.

CoC News

Detroit Continuum of Care Awarded $35 Million

For HUD's FY 2023 CoC Competition, the Detroit CoC was awarded $35,005,343. All of our renewal projects were funded! Additionally, three new projects totaling 1,033,580 were funded. This includes two Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) projects which will bring 35 housing units online! A new Coordinated Entry Supportive Services Only (CE-SSO) project has also been funded.


A full breakdown of award funding allocations will be presented at the next CoC Board meeting which will be occurring March 6th. You can register for the meeting here.

This training cultivates an awareness of how LGBTQ+ identity can impact the way people navigate resources, services, and care. Register here.

Gender Affirming Care

This training provides an overview of gender affirming care and transitioning (socially, medically, and legally). Register here.

S.O.G.I.E. 101 

March 11 | 1pm - 4pm EST

This training introduces participants to a social identity framework focused on sexual orientation, gender identity and gender expression. Register here.

Family Support with LGBTQ+ Children

March 13 | 1pm - 4pm EST

This training introduces participants to the Family Acceptance Project's research which highlights the correlation between caregiver behaviors towards LGBT youth and future health and safety outcomes. Register here.

SOGIE 5 Core Elements

May 7 | 10:00am - 11:30am EST

These interactive sessions will introduce the essential components of creating a safe and welcoming environment for diverse SOGIE children and youth. Register here.

Criminalization of Homelessness, Part 2

Join the Michigan Coalition Against Homelessness for the second meeting of the Criminalization of Homelessness peer learning community on Thursday, February 29th at 2:30pm. This ongoing participatory peer learning community hosted by MCAH will include the following :


  • Why are municipalities enacting ordinances and laws focused on people that are unhoused?
  • What issues are behind the rise of the criminalization of homelessness?

"On January 12th, 2024, the Supreme Court of the United States announced that they would hear the case of Johnson v. Grants Pass. This sets the stage for the most significant Supreme Court case about homelessness criminalization and the rights of homeless people in decades. At its core, this case will decide whether cities are allowed to punish people for things like sleeping outside with a pillow or blanket, even when there are no safe shelter options."

The conference offers tremendous opportunity to learn, grow professionally, reconnect with colleagues, and make new connections with our community

MCAH's Homelessness Advocacy Day 2024

April 23, 2024 | 9:00 AM

Lansing Community College


Participants will have the opportunity to: share information on the state of Homelessness and Affordable Housing in Michigan and your local community. Hear from state leaders on legislative priorities and the importance of advocacy. Learn about MCAH 2024 policy priorities, advocate in teams, providing information and meeting with Michigan legislators. Network with colleagues. This is an opportunity to provide information to legislators on what is going on with homelessness and the housing market at the state and local levels.



Homelessness advocacy day is an excellent time to highlight policy priorities such as the need for more affordable housing and tenant protections, and advocate for specific legislation that would be beneficial for the populations we serve.

Free Housing Literacy Program for Youth and Young Adults

Starting March 2024

Are you between the ages of 16 and 20 and ready to start planning for your future? Sign up for 10CORE Law Society's free housing literacy program to learn from experts and entrepreneurs how to set yourself up for long-term financial security and success.


Classes will be held every Saturday from noon to 3pm, March 2nd to May 25th in downtown Detroit. The program starts in March and participants can apply through February.
