CAM Transition

Correction: The most recent CAM transition update about the City of Detroit and CAM was incorrect. Please see the attached letter below shared by the City of Detroit (HRD) regarding CAM.

Despite the changes, our CoC is committed to maintaining the continuity of services through our coordinated entry system that provides access to temporary and permanent housing for those in need through September 1st and beyond.


Recommendations and next steps will be shared with the CAM Transitional Team, CoC Board, and CoC General Membership at their respective meetings

⭐In observance of Independence Day, CAM will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th. There will be no live phone service that day. If you are experiencing homelessness and need a safe place to stay, a recorded list of emergency shelters will be available by calling 313-305-0311 that day or at CAM's website. ⭐

Public Comments Sought

Public Comments Sought on Draft FY2023 CoC Project Priority Ranking Policies

The Detroit Continuum of Care (CoC) is accepting public comments on the draft FY2023 Continuum of Care Project Priority Ranking Policies. These policies have been developed by the Values and Funding Priorities Committee and describe how renewal and new projects will be ranked in the upcoming FY2023 CoC competition.

NEW CoC Project Funding RFP

The Detroit Continuum of Care has released Request for Proposals (RFP) for agencies interested in applying for NEW Continuum of Care project funding. Applications may be submitted for projects that do not currently receive CoC funding or for currently-funded projects for which the agency would like to request additional funding. Applications for new project funding must be submitted by 12:00 pm on August 4, 2023. Access full details on HAND's website

State Funding Awarded to Two CoC Agencies

Congratulations to Alternatives for Girls and Ruth Ellis Center!


The two Detroit CoC agencies were awarded funding for Michigan's FY 2023 Permanent Supportive Housing (PSH) pilot that the "state legislature established in January." They were awarded due to their proven ability to help people exit homelessness. Funds will goes towards capacity-building and the hiring of more caseworkers. The Corporation for Supporting Housing (CSH) and State Senator Jeff Irwin, worked closely with the state to obtain funding for the the pilot.

Barriers to Affordable Housing Webinar Series

July 12 - July 26 | 3:00 - 4:00 PM EST

This four-part webinar series will feature presentations from both experts and other grantee communities to help increase understanding of the barriers to affordable housing.


Training Objectives

HUD grantees* will learn:

  • How barriers impact Consolidated Plans (Con Plans)
  • How to use data and Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping to identify and understand barriers
  • Research on regulatory barriers
  • How to engage with community members to address and remove barriers

** While these trainings have a specific audience in mind, those generally interested in affordable housing and addressing barriers may find these trainings valuable as well.

Trauma Informed Approaches

Certification Series (CSH)

Tuesdays and Thursdays, from July 18th to August 8th

The Corporation for Supportive Housing (CSH) is hosting a professional certificate program is for anyone interested in developing the skills to provide quality trauma-informed services. This competency-based certification program focuses on trauma-informed practices. 

After getting certified, you will be able to: 

  • Recognize how trauma shows up in tenants and staff
  • Realize the diversity in experiences of trauma and why an individualized approach is necessary
  • Respond safely and effectively to the needs of individuals and families
  • Connect tenants with services and supports that promote resilience and recovery

Low Income Housing Tax Credits (LIHTC) Training

July 25, 2023 | 9:00 AM - 5:00 PM

Every year, CEDAM brings together leaders in the affordable housing industry to discuss the status of the equity market, changes to the Qualified Allocation Plan, and other important updates ahead of the fall LIHTC funding round. Important this year will be learning about MSHDA’s Qualified Allocation Plan (QAP) Racial Equity Impact Assessment (REIA) process, the funding timeline, and more.

Youth Action Board (YAB)

The Youth Action Board (YAB) is open to youth ages 16-24 who have lived with experiences with homelessness or any other adverse life experiences and possess a willingness to use their experiences and education as a medium to inform policymakers, service providers, and community members on best practices and strategies to prevent and end youth homelessness.
