Who said adults can't have fun for Halloween? Join Piedmont Rose Connection, Inc., Portland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., and Zeta Nu Chapter of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc. for this adult Halloween Costume Party! All attendees must be 21 - a government issued ID is required for entry. $10 cover includes food. Drinks are available via cash bar. Costumes are encouraged, but not required.

JKDCC to host Portland Bureau of Planning & Sustainability ReTHINK Workshop Series Are you ready to learn more about the impacts of climate change and take action at home and in your community? Join us for the 2011 ReTHINK Workshop Series where we will learn how to be engaged, be empowered and be sustainable.
Facilitated by the City of Portland Bureau of Planning and Sustainability, this series will include three training workshops and a community action strategy session. Details are below; all community members are invited to attend:

Workshop 1: Sustainability Matters & Climate Counts
Learn about "sustainability" and "climate change" in terms of individual and community empowerment.

Workshop 2: Be Resourceful: Get More of the Good Stuff & Healthy Homes: What's Your Home Energy IQ?
Discover resources, tips, and new ways to save money while doing good for the planet.

Workshop 3: Safe and Healthy Transportation Options & Food Choices
Healthy choices are not only good for you, they're also good for your community. Learn about your options and how to organize with others to make a change.
Workshop 4: Community Action Strategy Session

Participation in all four sessions is not required, but strongly encouraged. Sessions include group work, hands on activities and giveaways. Food will be provided. Childcare is available upon request. RSVP is required to attend.

The Portland Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. hosts three youth mentor programs. It is not too late to enroll for the 2011-2012 school year! Details and contact information can be found below:
Middle School Girls: Dr. Betty Shabazz Delta Academy
Focus: Scholarship in math, science, and technology; opportunities to provide service in the form of leadership through service learning; and sisterhood, defined as the cultivation and maintenance of relationships.

High School Girls: Delta GEMS: Growing and Empowering Myself Successfully
Focus: To instill the need to excel academically; to provide tools that enable girls to sharpen and enhance their skills to achieve high levels of academic success; to assist girls in proper goal setting and planning for their futures, high school and beyond; and to create compassionate, caring, and community minded young women by actively involving them in service learning and community service opportunities.

High School Boys: EMBODI (Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for Developing Independence)

EMBODI mentors enhance the student's development of academic and life skills, through social activities, leadership and technology experiences, meaningful fieldtrip opportunities and related dialogue and conversation.
