"Somatic Resourcing for Individuals & Couples"
Saturday September 17th 2011, 9:30am - 5:00pm
6.0 CUs for MFTs, LCSWs, & PsyD's
Rosen Center, 825 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA
This one-day workshop will explore body based resources and their practical usefulness in psychotherapy with individuals and couples. Psycho-Physical Therapy is a resource based model of therapy. Resources are those things, actions, qualities, awarenesses, abilities, etc. that we can draw upon for aid in times of need. They support a person in maintaining a sense of self and a feeling of competency, regardless of what is occurring in his or her environment. In couples work it is each individual and the relationship itself that is the focus of resource assessment and if needed the refining or building of new more optimal resources.
When a person or couple has inadequate resources, the ability to function fully and successfully in the demanding situations of life is undermined. In a resource based approach to therapy much time is dedicated to awareness, assessment, and understanding of the existence and quality of a client's resources, as they relate to the individual and collective therapeutic goals. Attention is given to both somatic and psychological resources.

In a somatic resource based psychotherapy the body is a consistent and central focus through which psychological organization is studied. When there is clear evidence that new resources are needed the therapeutic work then shifts from enquiry, discovery, and processing to the building and integration of new resource options. Psychological and emotional processing is important but is seen as secondary to the building of new resources that allow an individual client or couple to reorganize towards greater functionality, creativity and health.

This experiential workshop will:
- Include models and skills that are clinically useful for building new Somatic Resource
- Explore somatic resource themes such as support, centering, mobility, and integrity
- Explore the link between somatic patterns and psycho/emotional issue
- Include useful theory and applications, body reading skills, demonstration, and practice.

REGISTER NOW!"Deepening Mutuality & the Body of the Couple:

A Somatic Approach to Couples Therapy"

Sunday September 18th 2011

9:30am - 5:00pm

6.0 CE's for MFTs, LCSWs & PsyD's Rosen Center, 825 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA

The body gives form to the mind's story. The body can be a significant access route into the underlying dynamics that limit a couples quality of connection and intimacy. In the case of couples therapy there are four bodies present in the room, the therapist, each of the clients, and the body (the physical form) of the couple its self. This workshop will explore somatic ways to work with the form that the relationship manifests and how this can be a doorway into deepening a quality of intimacy and mutuality.
The focus of this workshop is the deepening of physical, emotional, and psychological mutuality and intimacy with a specific focus on the role of the body in creating and sustaining that mutuality.

Body Psychotherapies are now at the leading edge of psychotherapy methods. Although unusual when applied to work with couples a somatic approach is a powerful tool in successfully accessing and transforming the relational issues couples bring to therapy. Understanding how to work with the body, in relational psychotherapy practice, enhances the depth and effectiveness of the therapeutic work and can be an important ingredient in building or increasing the depth and quality of a therapist's practice.

- This workshop will enhance your skill and confidence in actively including the physical body in your work with couples.

- You will gain skills in tracking and assessing the somatic components of a couples interactions.

- You will learn how to help each person in the relationship deepen awareness of her or his somatic patterns and when necessary transform these patterns in the service of deeper intimacy and mutuality.
