Greetings!
I get the opportunity to see a lot of amazing
bassists. I love the private concerts I get almost weekly as
people come into our showrooms to try instruments out. It's
inspiring as an instrument maker to see up close how intimate and
personal our instrument is.
One thing I see more and more is amazing women playing the double
bass! Let's face it...it's a heavily male dominated
instrument...and seeing some femininity is a welcome sight.
Young women have some good role models who are blazing the
trails...and I hope you enjoy the few that I have selected. I know
there are countless others...But Spalding, Korb, Raines and Parrott
have been getting some very good press and I feel really
representing our beloved instrument quite well...and I think they
will have a big part in shaping the future of the bass.
So...without further ado, I bring you some Friday night double bass
goodness!
And remember...if you have ANY links, news, videos, etc. you want
to share, eMail it to me at eroy@uptonbass.com and I'll be sure to
share it. Oh...and if you just want to say "Hi" you can do that
too!
Have a nice weekend!

Korb

Combining the instrumental influence of Ray Brown and Charles
Mingus and the vocal styling of Sarah Vaughan and Ella Fitzgerald,
jazz bassist and vocalist Kristin Korb has created a sound all her
own. This concert was filmed in early 2005 at Vienna's famous jazz
club "Porgy & Bess," and features a truly magically performance
by Korb.
