National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is just one day away! The Me @ 30! Action networks at Howard University and Bennett College are gearing up for an exciting day of outreach events.
Howard University:
Join the Me @ 30 Action Network in the Blackburn Center from 11 AM to 3 PM, where they will host an engaging student-run panel on love and relationships in the ballroom; offer HIV testing in the "Punchout" caf; and distribute condom kits in the main lobby. To promote their programming, HU students have produced a short film called, "Stuff College Students Say About Sex." Dr. Tamara Henry will moderate the eponymous panel discussion.
The NBHAAD programming follows the action network's successful participation in the 20th annual Woman-to-Woman Conference, held Feb. 1 at Howard University. The network collaborated with The National Council of Negro Women, Inc. to distribute more than 100 HIV informational kits. They also recorded 30 positive messages of "Where Students Wanted To Be @ 30." The conference attracted nearly 400 young women within the metropolitan area for an important conversation about self-empowerment and professional success. Panelists included our very own Dr. Tamara Henry, as well as Tina and Trina Fletcher, Co-Founders of the Dream Girls DMV Mentoring Program, and Dr. Jamila Burgess Perritt, Medical Director at Planned Parenthood of Metropolitan Washington, DC, Inc. Howard University's Alpha Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. sponsored the conference.
Bennett College:
Support the Bennett Belles for their two-day observance of NBHAAD. On Tues., Feb. 7, the action network will host a movie night at 6 PM. The ladies will air, "Out of Control: AIDS in Black America." All-day HIV testing will follow on Feb. 8.
The ladies of Bennett also filmed their own public service announcements about the Me @ 30 movement. View their promos at YouTube here:

About NBHAAD:
Feb. 7 marks the 12th year for National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day, a national HIV testing and community mobilization. This year's theme is "Changing the Course of HIV/AIDS: One Black Life at a Time."
National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day was founded in 2000, by five national organizations: Concerned Black Men, Inc. of Philadelphia; Health Watch Information and Promotion Services, Inc.; Jackson State University-Mississippi Urban Research Center; National Black Alcoholism and Addictions Council; and National Black Leadership Commission on AIDS.
National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day has been, and always will be, a grass roots effort, that is shaped around the needs of those communities that work hard every year to make it a success. Your support this year means we have a chance to impact thousands of college students at Howard University and Bennett College. Help them make great decisions about safe sex now, so that they can live out their dreams at age 30!
