Too often we model ourselves after another person rather than after the Lord Jesus Christ. But no one other than Christ ought to be our model, our example, or, as Ralph Robinson points out, our pattern.
Here, in 13 sermons, this Puritan lays out Christ as a pattern for us to follow. He speaks of Christ as, among other things, a pattern of humility, of patience, of prayer, of forgiveness, of diligence, and of faithfulness.
An appendix is added: Simeon Ashe’s funeral sermon for Robinson entitled “The Good Man’s Death Lamented.” This is the first printing of this important work since 1658. May it stir up in God’s people a greater desire to be like Christ.

Very little has been written about the ministry of angels. And what little has been written can often be described as bizarre and without biblical foundation.
And to help us once again, here is a noted Puritan author, Increase Mather, father of Cotton Mather. Increase Mather lived from 1639-1723 and was president of Harvard College for a time. He also pastored the Old North Church in Boston until his death.
In this very rare work, Mather addresses such questions as: Does every person have a guardian angel? Is there an order among the angels?
How do the angels serve us and minister to us? What happened to the angels that fell? And what are we to make of angelic apparitions?
This is the first publishing of this important work since its original printing in 1696, three years after the Salem Witch Trials had ended.

GRACE:
The Truth, Growth and Different Degrees

“Christopher Love was a brilliant young Welsh preacher and rising star in the world of Puritan ministry,” wrote the late J.I. Packer. Love was highly regarded by his peers. He was a staunch Presbyterian and a Covenanter. The American preacher, Jonathan Edwards, read Love and had his books in his personal library.
Thomas Manton, a fellow Presbyterian and Love’s good friend, preached at Love’s funeral to a huge audience. Love’s wife wrote 140 pages of memoirs about her husband. “His family looked upon him as a Moses for meekness and a Job for patience,” she wrote. “He lived too much in heaven to live long out of heaven.”
Here are Love’s 15 sermons on Grace, taken from 1 Kings 14:13: “Because in him there is found some good thing toward the Lord God of Israel.” The Puritans saw a God who looked for “some good thing” in His people. The “Hall of Fame” in Hebrews 11 is full of people who, for all we know, only did one good thing, and yet are held up as models of faith. That indeed is grace, and that indeed is amazing!

It is finally available in a printed edition.
Every revival of note has had two common themes preached from the pulpit—justification by faith alone and God’s pending punishment for the impenitent. If we are to see revival in our day, those themes need to be brought to the forefront once again. May it please the Lord to use these rare sermons by this great Puritan preacher to spark the flames of revival among us.

The present work was found as handwritten manuscripts in 1703 and remained unpublished until 1836. It was published along with five sermons on Ezekiel 37 concerning the Jews.
Here are 12 sermons on Hebrews 10:31, “It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” These are penetrating, convicting, and informative sermons on the terrible fate awaiting the impenitent. These predate the sermons of Jonathan Edwards on the same subject.
This is great material for use in personal evangelism.
It is also of great comfort to those who have repented to see what they have been spared from.

These are the last sermons this great Puritan preached before he died of tuberculosis in 1646. Burroughs was a member of the Independent faction of the Westminster Assembly. Though he died at a relatively young age, the amount of material he left behind is staggering.
This book was first published in 1660 by some of Burroughs’ friends and admirers, of which there were many. It was reprinted in 1867 in the Nichols Series of Puritan reprints and that edition was published again 1987 by Soli Deo Gloria. This is the first ever modern edition of this classic work.
It is perhaps the greatest tribute to this man that his contemporaries held him in such high esteem. No less men of renown than Thomas Goodwin, William Greenhill, William Bridge and Edmund Calamy published six volumes of his writings after his death because of their regard for his piety.
Burroughs’s irenic personality, noted by many who knew him, is clearly exemplified in his decision to exposit the Beatitudes (originally given in forty-one sermons and compiled into Saint’s Happiness) as found in Matthew 5, which extol meekness, mercy, and peacemaking.

Author of 'An Alarm to the Unconverted'
Joseph Alleine is a much respected and much beloved Puritan preacher. His best known work is 'An Alarm to the Unconverted', first published in 1672 and steadily in print for over 300 years.
The present volume is a collection of 16 of his sermons on various subjects. Some of those are: “The Art of Dying Well,” “Self-Examination,” “A Serious Call to Christians to Win Souls to Christ,” “God May Be Sorely Angry with His People,” and “The Greatness of Christ’s Love.” The last one is his farewell sermon after the Great Ejection of 1662.
