Charitable Causes in and for Israel

The war continues and the threats get worse. Here is a list of suggested beneficiaries worthy of our continued charity and philanthropy.

Beth David's Israel Fund - established last fall in celebration of Rabbi Adler's birthday, This fund was the source for over $4,000 in charity that was distributed in Israel in July by our congregational mission. The fund needs to be replenished as the needs for 'chesed' support continue. Please CLICK HERE, and under "TYPE", select Israel Fund.

Just One Chesed - operates on many levels, striving to meet the needs of families as well as soldiers. JOC operates a distribution center in Efrat where soldiers come as needed to get supplies for themselves and their IDF units. CLICK HERE to support the work of Just One Chesed.

FIDF (Friends of Israel Defense Forces) - While in Israel we heard from many soldiers that the support of FIDF is invaluable. CLICK HERE to make a donation.

MDA (Magen David Adom) - is Israel's equivalent to our Red Cross. MDA is among the first responder to a crisis or health-related emergency. CLICK HERE to contribute.

One Family Fund - is a multi-level agency that provides support to victims of terror. CLICK HERE to support the work of One Family.

Project Benji - Benji Melammed was a student at HHNE in the 2005-06 school year while his parents were visiting professors at Yale. Benji has served as a Sergeant with his Reconnaissance unit of the tank corps for two months in Gaza, five months on the northern border, and is still serving. His unit is called Palsar which are the first letters of the Hebrew words plugatsiyyur (reconnaissance). There are 16 men in his team, and four teams in the unit. Benji is trying to obtain new clothing for his unit. To learn more and to contribute, please mail to Project Benji c/o Galya Greenberg, 21 Arundel Avenue, West Hartford, CT 06107. Additional ways to contribute include PayPal (@GalyaGreenberg) or Venmo: (Galya Greenberg 860-235-5657) .

An Update from the Strategic Planning Committee

At the Ritual Committee's suggestion, we have formed a Ritual Task Group to explore the thoughts and feelings of our congregation regarding prayer services, particularly Shabbat morning services.

The Ritual Task Group, under the leadership of Sam Zwillich, will conduct focus groups, surveys, and/or personal interviews to determine how best to meet the spiritual needs of our congregants. We want to hear about what is fulfilling as well as areas of improvement!

If you're interested in joining the Ritual Task Group, or in being part of the feedback process, please reach out to planning@bethdavidwh.org with your name and area of interest. Task Groups are time limited (4-6 weeks) and only require an hour or two per week of your time.

Additionally, we will convene a new Governance Task Group this fall. To see what this group will be doing, please view the following document: https://tinyurl.com/4sjka2fh. If you are interested in joining the Governance Task Group, please let us know via email at: planning@bethdavidwh.org or speak to Galya Greenberg at kiddush!

Kolot HaKehillah (Voices of the Congregation)

The War

As Israel navigates the war against Hamas, and we celebrate the release of hostages, let us not forget those Israelis who paid the ultimate price. Please CLICK HERE for brief biographies of brothers and sister that have been lost.

From the Beth David Inbox -

From Elisha and Anat Rosenzweig

"As you can imagine, things here in Israel are challenging, but B"H we are doing fine, and Gd willing we will get out of this soon, and stronger for it.

I wanted to share that I've started to record a "war diary" of the Israel-Hamas war that is taking place these days around us, tracking how things evolve from our perspective. The point is to give people - especially those who are not Israeli, but want to gain a sense of how things are here, "on the ground" - a sense of what it feels like, as well as what are the personal, political and strategic forces at work. I'm not a reporter or an expert in anything related to this war. Just an informed citizen of the State of Israel, who has lived in this tiny country in the Middle East most of his life and so has (hopefully) a broad context within which to help place these events. So far I've done two episodes. I'll be trying to do these in a semi-daily manner." Click here for Elisha's updates, and save the link.

Feel free to not only watch but also share with those you think would find this meaningful.

Hope to see you soon, in quieter times, Elisha Rosenzweig and Family
